I have come to see how incredibly courageous and resilient individuals can be and find it to be a blessing and a privilege to be able to do the work that I do. I have specialized in treating survivors of abuse and trauma and received certifications to provide Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Treatment and work with survivors of violence, trauma, and torture, and currently working toward a certification in EMDR. I also enjoy working with individuals and families dealing with a wide range of challenges including anxiety, depression, family systems issues and conflicts, difficulty with adjustments, grief and loss, and acculturation issues. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral, EMDR, and Narrative Therapy, as well as creative and play therapy techniques. My practice is designed for students who want a grounded, compassionate place to sort through the noise and reconnect with themselves. I understand how isolating it can feel to struggle silently while still trying to show up for school, deadlines, and the people who depend on you. Therapy with me is collaborative, warm, and practical. Together, we explore what’s weighing on you, build coping skills that actually fit your life, and create room for confidence, clarity, and emotional steadiness. Whether you’re adjusting to a new environment, managing academic stress, healing from past experiences, or simply trying to understand yourself better, you deserve support that honors your story and meets you where you are. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I do not believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral and trauma focused counseling. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.
Beginning the process of therapy is a powerful step into understanding and developing the best self. I believe in a holistic approach to therapy. People are influenced by a variety of factors that influence their personal values and behaviors. It is incredibly important for me to honor a person where they are at. I collaborate with clients to work towards goals that are meaningful for them. I draw from a variety of frameworks and therapeutic treatment modalities. Traditional Cognitive Behavior Therapy is empirically sound and an effective theoretical approach I utilize. I also draw techniques from DBT, Person Centered Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Gestalt Therapy. I am EMDR trained and utilize this modality for those clients who have experienced acute and complex trauma. EMDR is also indicated for clients who have tried traditional therapy and feel "stuck". EMDR can help shift change as clients sort through negative memories tied to negative self beliefs. I have had the privilege of working with a variety of concerns. Many of my clients have struggled with adjustment, relationship issues, trauma, depression and anxiety.

Greetings! Thanks for being curious enough to learn more about me and courageous enough to invest in yourself through counseling. My name is Dr. Zoe Johnson. I am a licensed clinical social worker with a Ph.D. in education. My clinical and research expertise is specifically with, for, and on behalf of Black and Brown folks. It is an honor to bear witness to the triumphs and challenges of one’s lived experience. It is a privilege to reflect back to people the knowing, solutions, resilience, and joy that is ALREADY in them but blurred or buried by oppression, false narratives, and/or any number of messages meant to undermine our wellness, joy, and…liberation. I stand with folks as they journey through life -- the evolutions, changes, transitions, and also the routine, ordinary, mundane – supporting their well-being through accessible and personalized counseling services. I help high-achieving folks overcome perfectionism, imposter syndrome, people-pleasing, and anxiety so they can cultivate & sustain the healed and healthy life that they deserve & desire. I am Black affirming and Queer affirming. I support the full and beautiful spectrum of sexual, gender, and relational orientations. As a clinical social worker, I draw from a strengths-based perspective. I practice ethical principles based on social work’s core values of service, social justice, dignity and worth, the importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence. I am pleased to provide an accessible, personalized, boutique counseling experience that supports your well-being. If anything that I’ve said here resonates with you and you feel we would make a good team, let’s get started! I’m confident that our work together can help you cultivate the beautiful life that you deserve. Peace, love, and abundant joy to you – Dr. Zoe Johnson
I primarily work with individuals struggling with compulsive behavior, including sex/porn addiction, codependency, internet/social media addiction, and problem spending/debting. Addiction is meant to make you feel less. It provides temporary numbing for lifelong pain. You feel trapped, depressed, angry, anxious, guilty, and afraid when you can't stop. Recovering from compulsive behavior, though not easy, is possible and has been accomplished many times. But it does require a complete change in beliefs and attitude, along with how to deal with life and its problems. Getting out of your head and taking action is the next indicated step. Listen to your mind and body - it's time to stop treating yourself so badly. I can help you learn to help yourself. You can become your own best advocate. All are welcome in my office, including those from BIPOC and LGBTQIA communities.
