Hello! My name is Jessica Hallman and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia. Many of us go throughout life having to be different versions of ourselves, whether that’s being different versions at work, with friends or with family. We get into this mode where we compartmentalize, hide ourselves and our experiences for various reasons which can include shame, pain, anxiety, anger, or fear of not being accepted. This often leaves us feeling lost, tired, unfulfilled, or unhappy. Whether you are experiencing symptoms related to anxiety, depression, self-esteem, problems with relationships, or a general sense of disconnectedness, I will work alongside you to promote inner healing, self discovery, and acceptance while allowing you to feel fully seen. I’m committed to creating a space that is safe, supportive, and non-judgmental where you can gently put down the “mask” and bring your whole self. I believe in having an individualized approach to meeting your needs. With the use of Person-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral, and Solution Focused Therapy, I will support you in gaining strength and finding joy. My belief is that we are each uniquely the captains of our own lives and at times, just need a new or different perspective on how to navigate our experiences. Let’s partner together, with you leading the way at your own pace (mask off), and begin the process of restoring your inner peace.
Viktor Frankl said "When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves." I find building healthy client/therapist relationships very satisfying. I enjoy working with clients who are open to growth. I am the mother of 3 young adult daughters. I am active in my profession by serving on the Board of Directors as President for 2018-19 as well as 3 prior terms as Western District Chair, for The Licensed Professional Counselors Association of GA (LPCA-GA). I am Certified as a Clinical Supervisor by LPCA-GA. I work with all sorts of populations, but I particularly feel that my strengths lie in working with young adults, adults, women, teens, pre-teens, parenting issues, anxiety, substance abuse, trauma and anyone going through a challenging life transition or existential crisis. I am Certified as a Clinical Trauma Professional through IATP. More details available on my website. I love being a Psychotherapist because I have the honor of hearing my clients stories. Each day I learn something new from clients and I hope that they are learning from me as well. Every day I am amazed at the strength and courage my clients have shown in their lives and I am honored at being invited into those stories and asked for guidance and clarity. There is a part of me that feels extremely anxious. There is a part of me that gets really sad and down at times. There is a part of part of me that can hardly get out of bed some days. There is a part of me that needs to take care of everyone and everything. There is a part of me that wants to check out and escape from all the responsibilities I have. There is a part of me that thinks about dying and a part of me that wants to live. There is a part of me that …. How many times have we all had these feelings or thoughts that come over us that seem conflicting at times but represent how we are feeling in the moment. Understanding our parts even those that are contradictory, being able to validate and accept our parts, and creating balance and space for our parts mentally can be attained through therapy. Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) is designed to allow us to heal from our pain, hurt, and fears by managing the parts that have been created out of our traumas. We have all experienced trauma in some form, and we all have parts that have been borne from those traumas. Parts that help us manage our daily lives and parts that may tend to disrupt our lives, but all of these parts are valid and serve some self-protective purpose and can be managed once they are understood. I practice with authenticity and meet each individual where they are currently. I am collaborative with my patients and respect the wisdom that they inherently possess and empower them to find the solutions that are congruent with their individual lifestyles. College life can be exciting, overwhelming, and everything in between. I understand the unique stressors that come with being a college student—academic pressure, life transitions, relationships, identity exploration, and balancing it all. As a former college student myself, I bring both personal understanding and professional experience into the work we do together. I have experience working with young adults ages 18–25 and strive to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you can feel heard and understood. My approach is collaborative and compassionate, drawing from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-informed care, and person-centered modalities. I believe therapy should meet you where you are and honor your individual experiences and strengths. I would love to support you as you navigate life’s challenges, build resilience, and begin healing the parts of you that need care and attention. You don’t have to do this alone.

At Misfit Minds, we work best with students who feel a little overwhelmed by life—even if they’re doing “fine” on the outside. Many of the students we support are carrying anxiety, stress, trauma, or complicated relationship experiences that make it hard to focus, rest, or feel like themselves. Our clients often say things like: “I’m exhausted and always on edge.” “My brain won’t shut off.” “I’ve been through a lot, and it still affects me.” “I don’t feel understood in other spaces.” We’re a good fit for students who want therapy that feels real, supportive, and non-judgmental, not stiff or overly clinical. We especially connect with students navigating anxiety, identity questions, difficult family or relationship dynamics, past emotional harm, or feeling out of place. You don’t need to have everything figured out—or even know exactly what’s wrong—to start. If you want a space where you can be honest, go at your own pace, and be met with compassion, Misfit Minds may be a good fit for you.

Many of the students I work with are dealing with anxiety, stress, sadness, imposter syndrome, or self-doubt. Some are managing heavy academic loads while also worrying about their future. Others are trying to balance school with family expectations, friendships, and romantic relationships. Many feel like they’re supposed to "have it all together" but deep down feel lost, stuck, or just exhausted from trying so hard. In our work together, we focus on giving you a place where you don’t have to perform or pretend. Therapy is a place where you can be honest about what’s hard, get support in making sense of it, and start finding ways to feel more grounded, more confident, and more in charge of your own life — without the pressure to be perfect.

*Telehealth/video sessions I have spent most of my career working as a therapist in a college counseling center. I am very familiar with all the challenges that being a student and balancing a new life bring. Becoming who you are going to be -while feeling and balancing all the things can seem so overwhelming! I work well with students who are struggling with fear, anxiety (social and other), relationships, old memories, trauma, recovering from sexual assault, past abuse, family conflict, low self esteem, worthlessness, self harm, eating difficulties, existential crisis, coming out-LGBTQ, and multicultural issues. My students tend to learn who they are and what matters to them, how to feel more peaceful, more joyful, more at ease, and more self loving. They often learn how to communicate better, say no, sleep at night, and have healthier relationships with others. I partner a lot with people who are healing from PTSD, or are grieving and have suffered losses as well. A lot of my clients say they feel more courageous, more at home in their body, more content being themselves and trusting of themselves after we work together. They feel empowered and comfortable being who they are. Although I am a private pay practice, please ask me about my student discount.I have a passion for working with students. We can also talk about appointment availability. If you are covered by insurance, I can give you a Superbill to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Life is hard. For many of us, we often become overwhelmed by stress, anxiety, loneliness, uncertainty, fear, you name it. To make things worse, we experience trauma and discover that some of our deepest wounds come from our relationships. Of course, we want to protect ourselves from relationships, change, and the unknown. I get that. From working in schools, residential facility, and private practice setting, I've learned that there is also something inside each of us that yearns for healing, loving connection, and pure joy. So, what is getting in the way? Let's explore that together. I have a non-judgmental and compassionate approach when providing counseling for individuals. What that means is I relate to you as another imperfect human being who understands the impact of trauma, life transitions, stress, anxiety and several other factors that affect our day-to-day lives. I will offer you a space to freely explore your struggles and opportunities for healing. Let’s be real, we don’t know each other and it’s going to feel weird at first to share your story with me. I thank you for even considering. Sometimes the hardest step is the first one. I recognize and respect that. Whenever you’re ready, I am ready to join you. You don't have to figure it out on your own.

Catherine (She/her) As a school social worker for 27 years, I worked with students PreK-12th grade and their families in school and the community. The last 10 years I focused more on the HS level with more personal issues that were affecting students' ability to focus on their classes. I got a reputation as someone who kept their secrets and helped them sort out who they are, esp. around issues of gender disphoria, sexual identity, and depression that frequently accompanies the struggle of self acceptance and showing ones' authentic self to others. College is a tough time for many people. If you think I can help you with this transition, please set up a video conference today. It's as confidential and encrypted as I'm capable to do.
