Marc is a seasoned clinician who uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in his work with clients. CBT focuses on exploring relationships among a person's thoughts, feelings and behaviors. During CBT Marc actively works with clients to uncover unhealthy patterns of thought and how they may be causing self-destructive behaviors and beliefs. By addressing these patterns, the client and Marc work together to develop constructive ways of thinking that will produce healthier behaviors and beliefs. For instance, CBT can help clients replace thoughts that lead to low self-esteem ("I can't do anything right") with positive expectations ("I can do this most of the time, based on my prior experiences"). The core principles of CBT are identifying negative or false beliefs and testing or restructuring them. Oftentimes clients being treated with CBT will have homework in between sessions where they practice replacing negative thoughts with more realistic thoughts based on prior experiences or record their negative thoughts in a journal. Studies of CBT have shown it to be an effective treatment for a wide variety of mental illnesses, including depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, eating disorders and schizophrenia. Individuals who undergo CBT show changes in brain activity, suggesting that this therapy actually improves your brain functioning as well. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has a considerable amount of scientific data supporting its use.

I work best with students who are trying to better understand themselves. You may be questioning who you are, navigating different parts of your identity, or feeling pulled in multiple directions by family, culture, relationships, school, or your own expectations. Maybe you’ve spent so much time taking care of others or trying to meet everyone’s expectations that you’ve lost touch with what you want. I enjoy working with students who are curious about the deeper patterns in their lives. Together, we’ll explore how your experiences, relationships, and identities have shaped the way you see yourself and connect with others. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, perfectionism, relationship challenges, life transitions, trauma, or questions about identity and belonging, therapy can be a space to make sense of your experiences and move toward a life that feels more authentic and fulfilling. My goal is to help you develop practical tools for the present while also gaining a deeper understanding of yourself so you can approach your relationships, decisions, and future with greater confidence, self-compassion, and clarity.

My approach is client-centered and grounded in active listening, nonjudgment, cultural responsiveness, and genuine allyship. As a Brazilian, bilingual therapist fluent in English and Portuguese, I understand the importance of honoring each person's unique background, identity, and lived experience. Drawing from my work in crisis intervention, outpatient mental health, schools, and community-based settings, I tailor treatment to meet each client's individual needs and goals. During our first sessions, we will focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship, exploring what brings you to therapy, and identifying meaningful goals f Life can feel overwhelming when you're struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, or thoughts of hopelessness. I work with teens (16+) through adults, including individuals from migrant and multicultural communities, to help them navigate challenges, build resilience, and move toward a more fulfilling life. Together, we will identify your goals, build on your strengths, and develop practical tools to help you overcome obstacles and create meaningful change. I believe healing and growth are possible when people feel supported and empowered. My clients are aware that something is not working and are motivated for change, even if they're not sure where exactly that change starts. My clients are often very conscious of the systemic stressors that make their lives more difficult, and come to me looking for support as they navigate challenges and imagine their futures. I specialize in identity exploration, trauma-focused practice, and LGBTQIA+ mental health. I use a blend of talk therapy and drama therapy to engage my clients in reflection on their present challenges from an embodied perspective, and provide a fuller understanding of how their past shows up in their present. I bring myself into my work, and hope to challenge the old idea that therapists inherently know more than their clients. You are the expert of your own life, and I would feel honored to be invited into your world. If you are interested in learning more about how I could support you, please be in touch.
