Perhaps you’ve been feeling overwhelmed recently. Or you’re struggling with constant worry and stress. Being a young woman and trying to find your way into adulthood is not an easy path. Anxiety is a common feeling during this time, and a natural human emotion, but too much of it can prevent us from leading the life we want. We all go through difficult times, and sometimes we need a little extra support to see our way through. I view my role as a therapist as a supportive and encouraging guide. Together we’ll explore unhelpful thoughts and patterns getting in the way of you becoming the woman you want to be.

Clinical Social Work/Therapist
Boston, MA

I am licensed in MA, NH, and VT. As a trauma therapist, I embrace an unconventional therapeutic style, incorporating humor and a holistic approach into my clinical practice. My practice is inclusive and welcoming to individuals from all identities and backgrounds. Many of my clients are neurodivergent or members of the LGBTQIA+ community who are experiencing issues related to complex PTSD and/or substance use and addiction. Drawing upon a deep understanding of trauma dynamics, harm reduction, and 12-step models, I stand by my clients as they venture into a path of healing and self-exploration. I offer a compassionate and comprehensive approach to healing. Viewing addiction and substance use as trauma-related disorders, I incorporate an eclectic combination of interventions to guide folks in rebuilding their sense of safety and resiliency. If appropriate, I can provide EMDR therapy. EMDR is a highly effective treatment for unresolved trauma. As a holistic clinician, my approach to healing considers the entirety of an individual. I believe our problems are not isolated events but interconnected components of our lives, impacting various facets of ourselves. Together, we can address issues at their roots, across the many layers of our being, to foster lasting and transformative change.

I am certified Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapist. In this approach, we get to know the different parts of you — the ones that may overfunction, strive for perfection, people-please, worry, or carry painful emotions. Rather than judging those parts, we learn to understand them with curiosity and compassion. Therapy can be a space to slow down, make sense of what’s happening internally, and help your system feel more balanced and connected. If faith or spirituality is important to you, we can absolutely incorporate that into our sessions. And if it’s not, that’s perfectly okay too.

Hello! I'm Dr. Spooner (she/they), a radical clinical social worker and AASECT-certified sex therapist dedicated to helping individuals liberate themselves from shame and stigma surrounding their sexual preferences, identities, and orientations. I strive to create a supportive space where clients can explore and address issues related to their sexual identities, fostering a path toward a healthier and more fulfilled self. Considering treatment/support related to sexual health and satisfaction? My specialties are as follows: Sex Offender Treatment & Problematic Sexual Behaviors; MAP support; Gender Identity; Sexual Trauma; BDSM/Kink; Fetishes; Cross-Dressing; Monogamous and Non-Monogamous Relationships; Body Image; and Compulsive Sexual Behaviors/Pornography use. In regard to style, I'm a warm and engaging therapist who believes that humor and laughter (when appropriate) can be some of the best medicine. I'm honest and direct while also being encouraging and compassionate. Life is hard enough; you need a therapist who can provide you with a safe and judgment-free space to discuss whatever is on your heart and mind.

You've faced so many challenges, and trauma has a knack for taking over everything. Maybe you try to keep busy to escape from it all, but most of the time, it's all-consuming. Your work or studies suffer, because you can’t concentrate. Your relationships are affected as well. It can be hard for others who haven't experienced similar struggles to truly understand you and what’s happening for you. Even for you, finding the right words to articulate it all can be tough. This makes connecting with others a bit more challenging. But trauma doesn't have to be your whole story. It doesn't have to consume your days, thoughts, relationships, and work. Even the trauma that stems from marginalization and oppression doesn't have to define you. Therapy can be where you separate out what has happened to you, from who you are and want to be. It can provide a space to discover peace, clarity, and even moments of joy amidst life's challenges. My passion lies in supporting survivors of interpersonal trauma, particularly those who have experienced child abuse, as well as individuals who face the daily impact of systemic oppression, including BIPOC, LGBTQAI+ individuals, and those who and those who navigate the complex intersections of marginalization. As a biracial Asian and White woman, I daily I navigate the hurtful impacts of racism and sexism in our world. Being multiracial allows me to see the world from different angles, and I appreciate both the difficulties and advantages it brings. I am 3rd-generation Chinese. I carry within me a deeply personal understanding of the burdens of generational trauma and the stress of acculturation within my family. However, I am aware that my experiences are limited to my own point of view and I don't assume to fully grasp how similar experiences have affected others. I approach everyone I meet, regardless of our similarities, with humility.

Accepting new clients! At the center of my work is the belief that healing happens through connection—therapy begins with a space that feels safe, compassionate, and authentically supportive. I work with adults and young adults who are navigating life changes, anxiety, depression, identity questions, relationship challenges, and the ongoing work of self-discovery. I am affirming of LGBTQ+ identities, supportive of neurodiverse experiences, and committed to practicing in ways that are inclusive, culturally attuned, and trauma-informed. My style is person-centered and strengths-focused, rooted in humanistic values. I support clients in making sense of their experiences, discovering meaning, and reconnecting with what matters most to them. In addition to my general practice, I also support caregivers, siblings, and parents of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, offering space for emotional processing and deeper understanding. I see therapy as a collaborative journey, an opportunity to explore meaning, reclaim personal narratives, and cultivate resilience. Each person brings their own wisdom, and I’m honored to walk alongside you as you move toward greater clarity.
