Hello! My name is Kristina Serena, owner of Serena Counseling and Empowerment Resources. I work with women to identify and conquer fears, obsessions, or unhealthy patterns of living that have resulted in feeling powerless! SERVICES: TELE-HEALTH (ONLINE THERAPY) You may be experiencing the grip of anxiety, depression, mood disturbances, addiction, trauma, self-esteem/self-worth, body-image, disordered eating or ADHD Through exploration of your story you will learn to embrace self love and start to heal You will learn to tap into parts of yourself that are experiencing a flood of different emotions You will learn to establish healthy boundaries towards yourself and others to protect your energy You will learn Somatic techniques to address symptoms you are experiencing including grounding, breathwork, body awareness and body scanning Together we will explore through a holistic approach how to create a more balanced life IDENTIFYING AREAS OF FOCUS/PATTERNS OF BEHAVIOR Over and over again I see women clutch to a certain set of rules surrounding their body, food, substances, parenting, friendships and the list goes on. This can be seen in many forms; excessive preoccupation, holding on the “idea” of perfectionism or distortion of reality. These patterns of thinking can leave you feeling stuck, on autopilot or frozen. It can be incredibly liberating to identify these patterns in a place of non-judgement HOLSTIC APPROACH: Learning to connect with your body and mind and listening to your needs is part of the holistic healing process Healing can have great impact on our emotional, physical and spiritual well-being. Together we can identify barriers to growth and foster change to live as your authentic self. There is no standard normal. Sometimes we have to dig deep and sometimes it's surface reflection. Each of us has a story and your story is powerful. Life can be stressful, chaotic and overwhelming. Transitions such as starting college, graduating college, a new job, separation or divorce, a significant loss, or becoming a new parent can add to our already complicated and stressful lives. Acknowledging that you need help and taking the step of finding a therapist is not easy. It takes both strength and courage. My goal is to help my clients on their personal journey. I believe in the power of relationships. I believe the power of the therapeutic relationship is what can ignite understanding, accepting, healing, changing and growing. My approach is a solution focused, strength-based perspective. I pull from a variety of therapeutic techniques to best address the individual needs of my clients. Specialty/areas of interest: anxiety, depression, relationship issues, bereavement, infertility and grief counseling, and general life transitions- specifically young adults exploring their adult identify and new parents adjusting to the transition of parenthood. I offer secure, confidential telehealth therapy. You participate where it is most comfortable and convenient for you. ***I also offer short term summer counseling for college students’ home for summer break. I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to process memories, thoughts and feelings. There are long, lost fears and often past traumas at play in all of us. Some surface, wreaking havoc with our lives. They can appear as grief, depression, anxiety or crisis. Others remain dormant and can surface at all the wrong times. You may appear successful, but despite your accomplishments, you are not happy or it seems like others are happier than you. Your personal relationships are not satisfying in the way you expect. Why is happiness still elusive? We can dislodge what is blocking your best life and guide you to a healthier self. We will guide you to new understandings, new behaviors and new ways of being that will lead you to a happier self. You can reduce the anxiety and depression. You can disarm the trauma and grief that has made the days so uncomfortable. I provide a safe, empathetic environment for change. Call to book an appointment or consultation.

** Telehealth and In-Person appointments.** We all long for our experiences, feelings, and needs to be seen, recognized, and honored. I bring to our work deep respect for your concerns and suffering. I place the therapeutic relationship at the heart of our work together which I approach with curiosity and empathy. I am most interested in what your unique experience is, and I aim to listen deeply on our road toward understanding. A safe-enough space will help us to transform your patterns of experience that interfere with your ability to be compassionate with yourself, to build meaningful relationships, and to work and play creatively, in other words, to live a fulfilling life. I am humbled by the complexity of human existence and feel honored to work with individuals from different racial and cultural backgrounds, sexual and gender identities, as well as spiritual and religious affiliations. In addition to my private practice, I am an Instructor in Psychology at Harvard Medical School (part-time) and supervise psychology interns and psychiatrist fellows. I served as the co-chair of the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Society for Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychology Graduate Student Committee helping young clinicians explore and develop their professional identities.

My style is direct, interactive, supportive and compassionate. I particularly enjoy working with older adolescents and adults who are experiencing difficult and challenging transitions in their lives. I have found that some people seek counseling for short term solutions, while others are seeking a longer, deeper, transformative experience. Some goals I have helped my patients achieve include: overcoming inhibitions about relationships or career, becoming better self-advocates, managing stressful life transitions, exercising more control over choices and actions, and mourning the loss of a loved one/significant relationship. I often use CBT, DBT, and ERP to help clients maximize functioning.

I have worked with people of all backgrounds but I generally work with women and the LGBT community. I work with clients on self-esteem, body positivity, anxiety management, trauma symptoms, and relational issues. As a human and a provider, I am feminist, anti-racist, fat positive, sex positive, pro-science, pro-vaccine, and pro-LGBT. My approach is varied depending on the individual's history with treatment. For people new to therapy, it may be helpful to utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. CBT involves looking at thoughts patterns and behaviors that may be creating obstacles in your life and setting up appropriate coping skills to address those issues. For people who come to therapy for the purpose of processing trauma, a trauma-informed, relational approach is necessary. For people who are looking to gain understanding about how their past intersects with their present behaviors, insight oriented therapy would be the best approach. I am not a "Listen and Nod" therapist. I will actively listen, provide you with feedback and analysis, and be open with you about your diagnosis, prognosis, and any treatments indicated. With full transparency, I say that I am not a validation-only therapist. Some folks want a therapist who will listen and validate without providing feedback or analysis. That is not my style. I will, however, work with you to figure out exactly how you can benefit from therapy.

In my practice, I work with a diverse range of clients, each bringing unique stories, strengths, and challenges. Trauma can surface in many forms such as anxiety, self-doubt, or difficulty feeling safe in relationships or within oneself. My work focuses on creating a space rooted in safety, empowerment, and emotional insight, where you can begin to reconnect with yourself. My holistic, trauma-informed, and individualized approach draws from modalities including DBT, IFS, and CBT. Together, we will reframe unhelpful thought patterns, strengthen emotion regulation, and cultivate healthier coping skills. Through a strength-based and solution-focused lens, I help clients nurture the parts of themselves that need healing, foster self-compassion, and build a more positive sense of self and overall well-being. No matter where you are on your journey, you don’t have to navigate it alone. I bring warmth, compassion, and a genuine commitment to helping you build resilience, deepen self-connection, and move toward thriving.

My clients are aware that something is not working and are motivated for change, even if they're not sure where exactly that change starts. My clients are often very conscious of the systemic stressors that make their lives more difficult, and come to me looking for support as they navigate challenges and imagine their futures. I specialize in identity exploration, trauma-focused practice, and LGBTQIA+ mental health. I use a blend of talk therapy and drama therapy to engage my clients in reflection on their present challenges from an embodied perspective, and provide a fuller understanding of how their past shows up in their present. I bring myself into my work, and hope to challenge the old idea that therapists inherently know more than their clients. You are the expert of your own life, and I would feel honored to be invited into your world. If you are interested in learning more about how I could support you, please be in touch.
