I provide individual mental health treatment services to adults experiencing emotional distress due to relationships, parenting, life stressors, and women's health concerns. I also work with people experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma and adjustment disorder, as well as the sober curious. I offer SPACE Treatment which stands for Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions. It is a parent-based treatment program for children and adolescents with anxiety, OCD, and related problems. I practice social work from a generalist approach, utilizing different treatment modalities based on the clients strengths and needs, including elements of person-centered therapy, A.R.C., mindfulness, collaborative problem solving, feelings management through coping skills, and dialectical behavioral therapy. In addition to private practice, I have experience working in schools, hospitals and day treatment. Hello! I’m Katherine. Therapy is a chance to have someone outside of your daily life help you process and navigate your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. I aim to create a warm, welcoming space where you can openly discuss even the toughest parts of your life. I have experience in many areas, but I especially love working with life transitions and changes, relationship dynamics, and self-discovery. As a woman of color, I’m also passionate about addressing racial identity issues and breaking unhealthy patterns with other BIPOC individuals. My goal is to help you find your voice and create a life that feels best for you. In our work together, I hope you not only find solutions to whatever brought you to therapy but also learn more about yourself and how you want your life to be. We’ll go at your pace, with you taking the lead. After all, this is your story. If this sounds like what you’re looking for in therapy, I’d love to start working with you!

Trying to sort through the thoughts in our head can be difficult and having a supportive therapist can help. I bring humor and realism to each client relationship. I am an interactive therapist who will be your cheerleader and will help hold you accountable for changes you wish to make so you can thrive.

Through my work, I've seen the incredible potential that young people possess, and my goal is to explore strategies that will empower you to make lasting changes that promote personal growth. I feel strongly that in a safe and nurturing environment, you can thrive. My role is to assist you in developing the necessary skills and coping mechanisms to navigate life's challenges such as anxiety, depression, familial and relationship issues, as well as stress. Together, we can strengthen your relationships, improve communication, and foster personal growth. Well navigate the challenges and overwhelm to make your journey more manageable. Do you feel like your emotions get in the way of you achieving your goals, affect your relationships, and keep you feeling stuck? Do you feel frustrated, unable to break patterns, or move forward? Or has a new life transition impacted you greatly and you don’t know where to go from here? My focus is on helping you learn how to regulate your emotions -- to be more in control of them than they are of you. In our sessions, we'll identify patterns, better understand them, and work together to come up with a plan of how to achieve your goals. My background is in CBT, DBT, trauma, grief and loss, and perinatal mental health. It can be hard taking the first step when you're struggling, but you've already done it by being here! If you live in MA or NJ, are open to telehealth sessions, and think we may be a good match, you can learn more about me at my website. I look forward to hearing from you!
I view the therapeutic relationship as similar to canoeing - it requires you to provide the steering, while I supply the momentum, and motivation and commitment from both of us to get to the destination. In our work together, I believe in giving you space to explore your story, as it was, as it is, as you want it to be, in a safe, supportive, empowering way that will, in time, allow you to feel confident and secure within your mind, body, and relationships. Within my practice, I utilize eco-therapy as a means to build an objective, curious, and comfortable relationship with the physical world around us, in order to practice building that same relationship within ourselves and with the people around us. It can feel so easy to get swept up in judgemental, shame-based thoughts, creating false perceptions, emotional pain and isolation. And yet, in the same way we prepare for cold winter nights or sweltering summer heat, so too can we weather the storms of our social and emotional worlds. To orient our work towards achieving your therapeutic goals, I work with Internal Family Systems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, existential therapy, somatic therapy, animal therapy, ecotherapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, CBT and mindfulness practices. Utilizing this interdisciplinary blend we can identify and work through the obstacles to then find ways to move forward and love yourself into creating your ideal reality. I accept individuals, couples and families of all genders, identities, religions, and backgrounds. With a client-centered approach I believe you are the greatest expert of your own life, and in order to effectively row this canoe I ask for trust, honesty, commitment, curiosity, and engagement, so I, in return, will provide compassion, patience, knowledge, and reflection.

I understand what a complex and sometimes overwhelming time of life this can be; whether you find yourself struggling with anxiety, depression, or difficulty navigating your relationships, I am truly passionate about supporting my clients in their process to gain deeper self-understanding and foster personal growth through self-compassion. I work from a place of genuine curiosity and respect each person’s path as unique. Life is incredibly overwhelming at times, isn’t it? We have all kinds of expectations and demands from our family, our partners, friends, employers, professors, and even ourselves. It can seem like a harsh world and the last few years have felt especially taxing. So many young adults are inundated with stress and sadness. This can lead to feeling anxious, unfocused, unproductive, and irritable. Then the self-doubt and criticism inevitably emerge and the questions of “What is my purpose?” and “Will things ever get better?” arise. If you are experiencing challenges or struggles, I would love to work with you and create some clear and concise goals as well as strategies to attain your objectives. I incorporate an integrative approach to therapy, using evidence-based cognitive behavioral and solution-focused techniques into my practice, primarily. We can talk about whatever is causing you stress. Seriously! Nothing is off-limits and there’s no judgement here. Instead, we explore the issues that impact your relationships and your life. Together, we will work to understand the origins of your overwhelming emotions, create some self-care practices for you, develop coping skills to help you feel better, and set forth an action plan to help you move forward. We will work towards your vision of happiness and contentment so that you can live the life that you deserve! I can offer you an empathetic and nonjudgmental relationship in which I support and encourage you in working through your frustrations, questions of identity and self-exploration, or relationship issues. I can assist you to become more aware of your emotional responses to disappointments, and to see that setbacks can be a time of self-reflection and growth. I taught at the college-level for many years and have vast experience with both young and older adults in the college environment who have had personal, academic, and career concerns. I truly enjoy the college population and would feel honored to help. Let's connect! Please visit my website and schedule a free 15-minute consultation with me.
