I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and a Certified Group Psychotherapist with over 12 years experience providing individual, group, and family therapy. I work with adolescents and adults of all ages who struggle with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, life transitions, relationships, decision-making, work/school achievement, and/or making behavioral changes. In addition to working with adults and adolescents individually, I specialize in group, couples, and family therapy. I lead three mixed gender groups (Tues 5:30-6:45p, Th 12-1:15p, and Th 5:45-7p) and one men's group (Mon 6-7:15p) in my private practice. I also co-lead an observed group (Tues 10:15-11:30a) at the Brookline Center for Community Mental Health. Please visit my website (www.joelkrieg.com) to learn more about my groups and my practice. To make the choice to be in therapy takes courage, and as your therapist, I am honored to be part of such an important step in your life. I am committed to working with you to create a safe, compassionate, and supportive environment in which to explore your challenges, and highlight your strengths. In my career, I have worked with individuals with diverse backgrounds and needs. My experience includes, but is not limited to, treating mood disorders, anxiety, self-esteem issues, addiction, and life transition stressors. My practice is also LGBTQ+, and polyamory friendly. My approach to therapy is collaborative and tailored to your unique needs. I use a mix of mindfulness, relational, narrative, and cognitive behavioral approaches to help guide you in your journey towards relief and clarity.
I began my private practice 12 years ago after working for many years in medical social work, college counseling and fertility support. The practice has evolved from primarily infertility, pregnancy and post- partum support to working with teens, young adults and women going through life transitions, Anxiety and Depression. I offer an interactive experience that blends elements of CBT, DBT, positive psychology, coaching and referrals and resources to other supportive practitioners in the areas of Acupuncture, Reiki, Nutrition and Functional Medicine.
I am currently accepting self-pay clients! During therapy sessions, I hold space for people facing all types of life experiences that encompass our collective human experience. Some key areas that I support individuals with are finding relief from anxiety through the cultivation of self-regulation and nervous system support, navigating major life transitions, healing from traumatic events, past or present, and exploring ways of living that are in alignment with one's true desires. I strive to help individuals build a relationship with themselves that are rooted in compassion and self-acceptance. As our imagination becomes activated and absorbed in the freedom of art and play, our linear or rational thinking processes of labeling and making judgments are temporarily suspended. This temporary suspension allows us to access our intuition (heart, center, wisdom, spirit, true self) and deepen awareness of our thoughts, feelings and experiences in life.
* I am offering online therapy sessions for MA & OR residents on a HIPAA-compliant platform. Hello, my name is Cynthia (she/her). I am a licensed clinical psychologist in MA & OR. Prior to becoming a psychologist, I served as a public interest attorney in MI and OR. As a psychologist, I continue to work from an anti-oppressive framework, approaching therapy as a collaboration. I specialize in longer-term psychotherapy to enable deeper understanding of the meaning behind manifest symptoms by exploring one’s distinctive history, upbringing, and cultural context as it relates to the present. However, flexibility and collaboration are central to my approach for those desiring brief consultations for specific situations. I draw from psychoanalytic and attachment theories, which value understanding how our internal and external worlds interact. I pay attention to the contextual thread comprising our present selves including our early experiences and the cultural, sociopolitical milieu we inhabit. I have experience working with adults from diverse backgrounds in inpatient/outpatient hospital settings, community mental health clinics, and college counseling centers. I am especially interested in shifting patterns of psychological trauma to embolden one’s sense of agency and increase cognitive and emotional flexibility for a more compassionate and creative sense of being with self and others.
