James Verdery is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor located in Acton, MA. James works with children, adolescents, teenagers, and adults who struggle to manage their emotions and feel in control of their lives. His clients find themselves overwhelmed by feelings of anger, inadequacy, frustration, confusion, sadness, or loneliness. Despite their best efforts, they feel like they aren’t in control of their lives. They might suffer from low self-esteem, which leads to anxiety at school or in peer groups and can often leads to isolation. James helps these clients to grow their understanding of themselves, their emotions and learn techniques to manage their distress. Clients learn tangible skills in emotional regulation and expression. They practice challenging assumptions, ignoring self-judgments, distraction and grounding exercises, and more. James tailors his treatment style to each client’s individual needs, personalities, and preferences for engaging, effective sessions. James earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. He is passionate about starting conversations about mental health at an early age. He strives to give clients the skills they need for a lifetime of healthy habits, including strong coping skills that allow individuals to feel meaning and joy in their lives.

I’m am a licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) based in Massachusetts, I received my Masters from Cambridge College and have been practicing for 4 years. I help adults struggling with anxiety, depression and trauma. When clients meet with me they can expect to be in a safe environment where they can share their thoughts and feelings in a non judgmental space. In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions. I will go over confidentiality, consents and privacy policy. I will gather some information through a bio-psycho social assessment about you and then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us. Having worked with professionals for the past 4+ years, I've developed and tried-and-true playbook for helping you (a) identify the root cause of your challenges and (b) create a tailored plan that leads to measurable progress.

If this is your first time looking for a therapist, or continuing your journey into self discovery finding someone to connect with may feel like a difficult task. I believe that the most important step in finding success in therapy is connecting with someone who understands you and can hear your perspective and respectfully challenge your thought process. Whether you are someone who comes to this setting thinking, “I don’t even know where to start,” or are coming with a list of tasks to begin working on, I would enjoy getting to know you As a previous director of a college counseling center I have experience working with teens, college age students, and young adults stepping out on their own and trying to discover who they are. Specifically working with LGBTQIA+ population on learning what their identity means in a new environment. I have worked with a variety of diagnoses including depression, anxiety, ADHD, and autism in individual and group therapy. My specialties include social skills development, emotional regulation, and strengthening interpersonal relationships. I am a social worker focused primarily on helping those with a wide variety of mental health concerns. With a background in therapeutic communities, I believe it is essential to protect the dignity and humanity of a patient no matter the extent of their suffering. My work is guided by psychoanalysis and phenomenology, which allow me to collaboratively explore the meaning of one's difficulties with a patient in the context of their life to alleviate rather than manage symptoms. I pride myself on work with clients who are apprehensive about therapy, have stalled in therapy in the past, are skeptical of modern paradigms of mental health, have had unusual experiences or have unusual spiritual beliefs, have been called too smart for their own good or have otherwise been made to feel difficult.
My particular areas of interests include (but are not limited to): depression/anxiety, life transitions, college mental health, LGBTQIA+ issues, emotion regulation, and family work. I have significant experience working with the LGBTQIA+ community, working with children on the autism spectrum, and children/family work. I also have extensive training in risk assessments, individual, group, and family therapy. I approach each person/group as unique and will tailor my techniques/practices appropriately. My graduate work was with a concentration on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), but I also utilize techniques such as mindfulness, motivational interviewing, strength-based therapy, coping skill training, etc.

Hi! I'm Kade- a queer, nonbinary therapist that got bored of doing traditional therapy. Now, I work with clients in the outdoors (think: walk and talk therapy, or hanging out by a creek, or making nature art) or offer to bring in art and nature into our office or virtual sessions. I primarily work with LGBTQIA+ clients as well as those figuring out life after leaving or reconsidering religion. Many of my other clients are navigating life changes that feel chaotic or are just trying to give therapy "another shot". My ultimate goal for my clients is for them to get the support they're needing. So, I'll invite you to check in about what's working or not, and will work to co-create an approach to therapy based on your own needs. Therapy should never be a "one size fits all" kind of thing.
I specialize in working with college students and young adults, providing individual therapy in a collaborative partnership where we address your concerns and build strategies for growth and healing. Having served as a Staff Psychologist at University of Chicago Student Counseling Services, I developed a deep understanding of the unique challenges students face during this major life transition. I have extensive experience treating anxiety, trauma, mood disorders, and ADHD. My listening style is warm and interactive. I integrate psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and family systems approaches while staying attuned to contemporary social issues. Together, we'll identify patterns that aren't serving you, enhance your self-awareness and build resilience to create sustainable positive change.
You are smart and capable but are struggling right now. Emotions are coming up that are uncomfortable and are making the life you want to live just harder. Whether it's old stuff like self-esteem or new stuff like grief or cultural adjustment, I work with you to help you get back on a healthier and happier path. I work with you in a very active yet nurturing manner. My style is direct, compassionate, yet a bit playful at times. :) You are unique and every therapist is not a perfect match for everyone. Due to that, I give a free 50-minute consultation prior to us committing to work together. Two things to know about my practice is that I am online only and that I am not on insurance panels (if you have out-of-network benefits, that might help with the cost). If you think we might be a good match, check out my website and then reach out for a consultation. :)

I’m a psychologist licensed in both Massachusetts and Kansas who spent 5 years working in college mental health. My approach to therapy begins with the idea that all people have an inborn drive to grow and make continuous progress in their lives. But, difficult life circumstances often interfere with our natural capacity for growth. Negotiating life transitions, having relationship problems, and managing overwhelming responsibilities can make it hard to feel like our true selves. I strive to provide a warm and reflective space where you can take a break from the chaos of everyday life, observe your experiences and emotions, and reconnect with your core values. I am also an analytical thinker who can help you identify and understand different patterns in your life, both ones that can help you grow, and ones that have been getting in your way. I do my best work with people who feel misunderstood in their lives. If you frequently feel out of place because of who you are, or if you often find yourself being the only person "like you" in any given situation, I’d like to work with you. Through our collaboration, I hope to provide an experience that can help you transform your feelings into a productive creativity that you can carry with you for the rest of your life. If you think that I might be able to help you, please contact me so that we can talk and find out together whether my approach is a good fit for you. Unfortunately, because I am a staff psychologist at KU, I am unable to see students from KU at my private practice for therapy or testing.
