Finding the right therapist can be challenging, so here's a little about me and my practice - Warrior Heart Counseling, LLC - to see if we may be a good fit! I'm a MA licensed mental health counselor providing telehealth therapy. I've worked with teens, college students, and young adults in a multitude of capacities throughout my career. I've also taught as a professor at the college level, so I'm familiar with both sides of the classroom as teacher and student. I can help with issues such as stress, anxiety, low-level depression, perfectionism, major/career exploration, peer or relationship issues, boundary issues, enhancing coping skills, or simply navigating this major life transition. My role is to build a trusting therapeutic relationship that can help encourage you to see things in a different light, respond to situations in a new way, and navigate life’s challenges. While I often utilize cognitive behavioral, solution-focused, strength-based, and trauma-sensitive treatment modalities, my approach is tailored to meet your unique needs and goals and adapt as those grow and change with you. I enjoy working with clients who are engaged and motivated for the counseling process. If you think we may be a good fit, reach out to connect for a free 15-minute consultation!
As we move through different stages of life, we may require some additional assistance to get back on track and accomplish our objectives. Charlotte has dedicated her career to guiding and supporting adolescents and young adults. She has received training in several treatment approaches, including solution-focused therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which she employs to help her clients succeed. Charlotte Smalls is a highly experienced Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with more than 10 years of experience in her field. She holds a Master's Degree in Social Work from Simmons University and a Graduate Certificate in Dispute Resolution from the University of Massachusetts-Boston. Throughout her career, Charlotte has worked primarily in the juvenile justice field in various roles, such as caseworker, and clinical director. She has also previously worked as a private practice clinician, providing therapy to clients and supervising many other clinicians who were working towards independent licensure. I provide identity-affirming therapy to adults with intersecting marginalized identities, including (but not limited to!) folks who are queer, trans, neurodivergent, disabled, kinky, non-monogamous, as well as other marginalized identities. I also enjoy working with those who previously had poor experiences with therapy, first time therapy clients, young adults, and those who feel “different.”
*Telehealth video sessions only* Healing from difficult life experiences can and does happen. We are all wired to protect ourselves from experiencing pain, but unfortunately the parts of ourselves that work hard to distance us from pain often keep us from living fully. If you are noticing patterns of thoughts and behaviors that are getting in the way of your moving forward in the direction of your dreams, this is a great start. The work of therapy is to slow down in order to cultivate the space between you and your feelings so that you are less overwhelmed, more understanding and have greater self compassion. You are not your feelings. Whether you suffer from PTSD, depression, anxiety, poor self-esteem, or are having conflict in relationships or difficulty adjusting to new experiences, I believe that you have the capacity and strength to overcome obstacles and live life to your fullest potential. With a calm and caring presence and over 25 years of experience, I would be privileged to work with you so that you can experience freedom from self-limiting beliefs and live with greater intention, self- acceptance, interpersonal effectiveness and joy. Therapy doesn't have to be painful or overwhelming. I will work collaboratively with you to pace the work so that you can maintain a sense of safety and stability throughout the process. I use a number of different therapeutic modalities but believe that goodness of fit in the therapeutic relationship is the foundation of success. I am happy to speak with you to help figure out if I would be a good match for you.

In my practice, I work with a diverse range of clients, each bringing unique stories, strengths, and challenges. Trauma can surface in many forms such as anxiety, self-doubt, or difficulty feeling safe in relationships or within oneself. My work focuses on creating a space rooted in safety, empowerment, and emotional insight, where you can begin to reconnect with yourself. My holistic, trauma-informed, and individualized approach draws from modalities including DBT, IFS, and CBT. Together, we will reframe unhelpful thought patterns, strengthen emotion regulation, and cultivate healthier coping skills. Through a strength-based and solution-focused lens, I help clients nurture the parts of themselves that need healing, foster self-compassion, and build a more positive sense of self and overall well-being. I bring warmth, compassion, and a genuine commitment to helping you build resilience, deepen self-connection, and move toward thriving.
