Therapists for college students near Northeastern University
Lighthouse Counseling & Sand Play Training Center is an outpatient facility providing support through scheduled appointments only for families, children, couples, and individuals. We also offer workshops and groups for individuals seeking community and support. Sand Play therapy allows the person to tap into the psyche. Through the use of symbolic figures, a person is able to create in the sand tray stories which examine their wounds, the effects from those wounds, and the possibilities for resolution. The practitioner is then able to help a person to connect insights to feelings and begin the journey toward healing. Through Sand Play, the adult client is able to build the skills necessary to avoid the problematic patterns of the past. Children’s thoughts and feelings are given a voice through symbolic play, enabling them to resolve their issues in a language they understand. “Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) integrates elements of many effective psychotherapies in structured protocols that are designed to maximize treatment effects. These include psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, interpersonal, experiential, and body-centered therapies. EMDR is an information processing therapy and uses an eight phase approach ….After EMDR processing, clients generally report that the emotional distress related to the memory has been eliminated, or greatly decreased and that they have gained important cognitive insights. Importantly, these emotional and cognitive changes usually result in spontaneous behavioral and personal change, which are further enhanced with standard EMDR procedures.” The development of the addictive personality is not an overnight event. Often times, an addicted person will have a history of trauma and grief. It is critical to have a comprehensive treatment plan with a therapist who specializes in addictions work in order to make a full recovery. We treat addictions to illegal drugs, alcohol and prescription medications as well as sexual addictions.

Sometimes we don’t have anyway of knowing what we’ve been through until it’s over. Recognizing things that were harmful to us sometimes cannot happen until we are no longer in survival mode. Dealing with overwhelming thoughts, depression, anxiety, or the overwhelming emotions that can come in waves is a significant thing to have to handle. This can lead to people struggling to handle life, and even consider ending it. At Inverted Dawn, we specifically work with people who’ve reached that point where things have gotten so bad, nothing seems to make sense anymore. What we offer is a supportive, non-judgmental approach to help explore where you are at, how you’ve been coping with it, and what a tomorrow that is worth living for would truly look like.
For over 20 years I have worked with teens and young adults as they navigate through life's challenges and transitions. Depression, anxiety, relationship issues or unhelpful thinking patterns can get in the way of living the life we imagine. I enjoy working with clients in a safe, non-judgemental space, where we can identify roadblocks and create a plan that works and allows you to live a fully engaged life!

Hello and welcome! My name is Ali, and I am a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) in Massachusetts. I have worked in the field since 2012, bringing over 13 years of experience supporting individuals in their recovery. Over the past five years, I’ve focused on supporting clients who identify as LGBTQ+, neurodiverse, and other marginalized communities, providing care that is compassionate, affirming, and tailored to each person’s unique journey. I strive to create a relational container that is both safe and appropriately challenging, supporting each client’s healing and growth.
Some clients arrive feeling the weight of their anxiety. Others are in the middle of a transition—navigating changes in relationships, family dynamics, or adjusting to a new diagnosis or ongoing health condition. These transition moments can bring a level of uncertainty that’s hard to tolerate and often lead to second-guessing, especially when your body or health begins to feel unpredictable or outside of your control. I also work with individuals who experience intrusive thoughts or feel caught in patterns meant to prevent something bad from happening. These thoughts can feel unsettling or even at odds with who you are—making them confusing, distressing, and difficult to talk about. For some, these experiences are connected to obsessive-compulsive patterns (often referred to as OCD), even if that’s not a term you’ve used for yourself before. There are effective, evidence-based ways to work with OCD patterns, and we can talk through what that might look like for you. At the heart of my work is the belief that therapy is a collaborative process. You should want to talk to your therapist, and from the very beginning, I focus on creating a space where you can talk openly about what’s actually on your mind. The relationship between therapist and client matters deeply. Meaningful change tends to happen when people feel understood, respected, and able to show up honestly— even when what they’re bringing to session feels messy, confusing, or hard to put into words. Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all, and no single approach works for every person or every situation. I draw from a range of approaches and tailor the work to each client’s needs, goals, and experiences. Depending on what feels most helpful, this might include building a clearer understanding of the patterns you’re caught in, exploring where those patterns come from, or finding new ways to respond to them. Across all of this, my focus is on helping you make sense of what you’re experiencing and shift the patterns that are keeping you stuck so they begin to have less of a hold on you over time.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply not like yourself lately, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to figure it out on your own. I’m a nurse practitioner with over 20 years of experience in healthcare, and I believe the best care happens when we work together. As a dual board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner, I look at your mental and physical health as parts of the same, connected story—not separate issues. I take a holistic and individualized approach, helping you understand what’s behind your symptoms, explore treatment options in clear, practical terms, and build strategies that fit your life and goals. I have worked with young adults facing career transitions and the stress that often comes with major life changes. I also help individuals manage depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, and mood disorders. You're studying nursing because you want to make a difference in the world. But it doesn't feel like you thought it would. You are faced with challenges in clinical that were never talked about in the classroom. By the end of the day, you're numb and exhausted. You spend your nights looking up how to transfer to a different major. You are spending your weekends watching the same show on repeat and wondering if this is really the college experience everyone talks about. Therapy designed specifically for nursing students focuses on creating a restorative space where you can finally slow down and process the emotions you push aside to make it through the day. We will talk about how to maintain self-care and balance while you study one of the hardest majors and learn the coping tools and boundaries needed to support ongoing success in your profession. I have 20 years of working with clients on anxiety, burnout, and overwhelm. I love building new wellness practices that are accessible and sustainable -- identifying challenges, utilizing coping skills, and creating easy self-care practices for your day. It's wonderful to see clients shift from having distress at their symptoms to feeling confident about their ability to handle what life throws at them. After 20 years of working and learning, I utilize a wide range of approaches -- the classic Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to reframe unhelpful thoughts, somatic practices like yoga, Emotional Freedom Technique, and mindfulness and breath work to help settle the body, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to get to know with caring and curiosity what is behind the triggers and automatic responses. My pronouns are she/her, and I strive to incorporate a feminist and anti-racist perspective into my work.
After several years working as a nurse in the medical field and understanding the mind-body connection, I discovered that I wanted to work in a way that I could create long term relationships with my patients. I believe that mental health is just as important as our physical health. Although I am a strong advocate for holistic modalities such as therapy, movement, nutrition, and sleep, psychopharmacology can be a critical part of your treatment journey. Medications work best when used in conjunction with therapy and overall well-being practices. I understand that making sure you are working with a provider who can meet you where you are and support you in your journey makes a big difference in your healing. I believe my role as a nurse practitioner is to provide education and guide you to make choices that feel the best to you and your healing.
My goal is to empower you to develop healthy relationships, overcome personal challenges and to identify and heal conflicts / wounds so that you become the most robust version of you possible. I will actively support you through your journey and empower you with the confidence for self-exploration. By working together we will bolster your personal resilience and create space for change and growth.
My approach relies on a warm and trusting therapeutic relationship where we can safely engage in healing work. We will navigate the pains and challenges of today, while fostering an understanding of how the past has played a role - all while inclining toward a meaningful future. I will provide tools for immediate relief as needed to support this process. I often work with folks who are highly sensitive, feel different or misunderstood, have overwhelming emotions, struggle with relationships, have low self-esteem, are queer or questioning, or are seeking to develop identity, purpose, and meaning in life. I would love to talk to you more about how I work, hear about your goals for therapy, and answer any questions you might have. I look forward to hearing from you!
