Therapists for college students near University of Minnesota
With over ten years of clinical experience, I recognize how academic stress can affect young adults. These challenges often impact individuals uniquely, depending on their backgrounds and identities. In therapy, I customize my approach to equip you with the tools and support necessary to reclaim balance and focus on your academic and social pursuits. Together, we will create a space to address these challenges.
Does This Sound Like You? You’re burned out from trying to do everything right. You’ve been called "too sensitive" or "too much". You’ve got big dreams but get overwhelmed or stuck. You say yes when you want to say no. You do all the “right” things and still feel exhausted and stuck. You crave rest, clarity, and space to just be. Let’s Change That Together, we’ll quiet the noise, ease the anxiety, and help you start showing up for yourself. Less guilt. More peace. A life that actually feels like yours.
Starting therapy can feel uncomfortable, especially if you're used to handling things on your own. I want to set a tone that feels genuine, relaxed, and goal oriented where we develop real solutions to your real problems. I have experience working with adolescents and adults facing stress, relationship problems, anger, and major life changes. I work especially well with someone who may feel stuck, isolated, overwhelmed, or perhaps even unsure where to begin? Therapy with me is focused on helping you move forward.
Hi, I'm Brianne. I'm a licensed therapist who works with people going through life changes, tough transitions, or just trying to figure things out. If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of what's next, you're not alone. I work with students who are juggling a lot - classes, relationships, family expectations, and everything in between. Sometimes it helps to talk to someone who will listen without judgment. Therapy with me is real, honest, and focused on what matters to you. We’ll figure things out together, one step at a time.
We want to provide you with what you need; tell us! We have a mix of providers that are fun-loving, sarcastic, serious, holistic, and trained in different areas of mental health! Our providers are so smart they also know a few different languages such as Spanish, Hmong, Amharic, and Omoro. We can't wait to hear from you!
I provide individual therapy to adolescents and young adults. My approach centers building connections, offering compassion and staying curious about who you are in the past, present and future; helping you become the author to your own story. I want you to feel seen and heard throughout our time working together. Although I welcome working with a range of client concerns, my areas of special focus include navigating disordered eating, eating disorders, body image, shame and perfectionism, identity exploration and anxiety management. I practice from an intersectional feminist, holistic style approach. Many of my clients are in the early stages of exploring their relationship with identity, food and their bodies. Like all of us, I am a work-in-progress but I constantly strive to be culturally and gender affirming and responsive in my daily practice. Prior to becoming a licensed therapist, I worked in community based non-profits throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota. I remain passionate about advocating and supporting youth and families during their healing and growth journeys, as well as promoting access to care. Hey! My name is Elena, I use she/her pronouns, and I work with rebels, rioters, and revolutionaries. My practice is one that centers and celebrates authenticity, courageous exploration, and a collaborative, therapeutic relationship. In practice, this can look like taking the time to build trust and connection, pulling from a wide variety of modalities, and curiosity and silliness when needed (which I believe is often!) I have seen many therapists feel the need to rush into “fixing”; in my work, there is no rush and there is no “fixing”. Together, we will sit in the messy experience of being human; exploring and learning from our pain while uplifting and celebrating the joys. We will co-create your therapy experience, making it into whatever you need it to be in order to feel as safe as possible. I bring an anti-oppression and decolonization lens to the work of therapy, as this helps to ensure that I do my best to mitigate the harmful impacts of these systemic issues in the healing space. I will certainly make mistakes. I hope you do, too! These are opportunities for both of us to practice collective learning, unlearning, and healing. I believe that therapy is community. We may share certain identities and there will be those we do not share, yet it remains a community. Let's be in joyous community together!
I'm Julie TenBrook, PHMNP. I'm the owner of Open Minds. Open Minds symbolizes acceptance, on my part, of who you are without judgement. It, also, symbolizes the opening of your mind to change and healing. Being in college is a time of rapid growth. This can be hard. Figuring out how to navigate school, new relationships, new routines and define who you are as a young adult can be stressful. If you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and anxious, I can help. Treatment is tailored to what you need. It is usually multi-modal and not "just" medications or "just" therapy. Everyone's needs are different and we can design a treatment plan that fits you.

College can feel like a whirlwind—classes, relationships, future plans, and the pressure to “have it all together.” If anxiety, depression, or mood struggles are making it harder to thrive, you don’t have to face it alone. In my practice, I specialize in helping college students navigate the ups and downs of campus life. Think of it as a space designed for you: inclusive, supportive, and focused on helping you feel grounded, confident, and ready to take on what’s next. Whether you’re adjusting to independence, managing stress, or just trying to feel more like yourself, therapy can be the reset you’ve been looking for.

I offer therapy without judgment, I am here to help you challenge the critic in your mind telling you that you're doing everything wrong and that everyone is judging you all the time. I use a mix of cognitive and behavioral approaches to help you learn ways to change how you think about yourself and the world around you. I help by providing a nonjudgmental space and time for you to process through the thoughts that are troubling you and the worries you have. I am available to see clients in Illinois and Indiana.

Do you feel exhausted from trying to hold everything together? Maybe you have always been the responsible one or the person others rely on. You pushed through stress, anxiety, and family challenges because you felt like you had to. At first it seemed manageable, but now the pressure feels heavier and harder to carry. On the outside you appear confident and put together. Inside you might feel overwhelmed, burnt out, or worried that you cannot keep this up much longer. Wanting a break does not mean you are failing. It means you are human. I’m Sara, and I help students who are tired of perfectionism, constant pressure, and the weight of expectations. I work with people who want healthier relationships, better communication, and support as they process past experiences that still affect them today. My background includes ACT, CBT, TF-CBT, Brainspotting, and group therapy training, which allows me to tailor our work to what you need. In our sessions, you can expect a warm, honest, and real environment where you can finally let your guard down. I show up as myself so you can feel comfortable showing up as yourself too. You deserve a space where you can put down the pressure you have been carrying and focus on feeling grounded, supported, and hopeful. I am here to help you get there.
Are you looking for someone to connect to who will listen, empathize, and provide non-judgmental feedback? Are you someone who struggles with emotional expression, anger, and thinks therapy is "not for you"? Are you adjusting to college life and need a bit of support through the transition? I can help. I am a compassionate, genuine, non-judgmental therapist. I focus on creating a safe space in which each individual feels heard and understood while promoting awareness, growth, and change. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) principles as well as have specialized training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), a trauma-based therapy approach. It can be so intimidating to take the first step of reaching out to a therapist for support. I get it, I've been there myself, and trust me, it's worth it. When you contact me, I promise to provide a warm and professional consultation to help you decide if I can meet your needs and if we would be a good fit to work together.
As a queer therapist, I believe there is no one “right way” to live our lives. This is the same for therapy, there is no “right way.” I believe we all have the power to harness our strengths and find the path that gives us the most meaning and purpose. Clients are the experts in their own lives – each person has the tools and skills to solve their problems, though sometimes may need some outside help to find those tools and learn those skills. Together we can create a therapeutic alliance that is conducive towards self-discovery, growth, and fulfilling your potential while honoring your history, resiliency, values, and beliefs. I completed my Masters in Social Work at Loyola University Chicago. I am working towards being a Certified Sex Therapist (CST) through the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT). I specialize in working with the LGBTQ+ community, gender diverse, the consensual non-monogamy (CNM) community, and I am kink/BDSM-affirming.
