I take my work very seriously, which means that I strive to take myself very much not-seriously. Some sessions, you may need to cry. Some sessions you may need to laugh. This is a space for healing and growth. The most necessary ingredients for both of these things are warmth and play. My sessions can best be described as an abundance of warmth and play. I hold a Master of Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP) from University of Pennsylvania, which I obtained with a focus on positive sexuality and living your best sexual self. I hold a Master of Arts (MA) in Psychological Counseling and a Master of Education (EdM) in Mental Health Counseling from Columbia University, which I earned with a heavy emphasis on applying a social justice and multicultural lens to therapy. While at Columbia, I also received an Advanced Certificate in Sexuality, Women, and Gender with my focus on LGBTQQIA and open/polyamorous clients in therapy.

If you experience anxiety, depression, relationship issues, ADHD, OCD, or other emotional and behavioral difficulties, we're here to help. Behavioral Health of New York (BHNY) founded by Dr. Mitchell S. Levy, is a private practice of PhD-level psychologists who specialize in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based therapy methods backed by science. Many clients achieve significant progress with CBT in a relatively short period of time. Other clients benefit from interpersonal or relationship-oriented therapy. When we work together, we’ll break down your patterns of thinking and behaviors that cause challenges and hold you back from enjoying life. You’ll develop the skills to feel better and create positive change. Most clients find our approach a very refreshing change from their former therapy.

Are you waking up already tired, dreading another video meeting, wondering how work that once excited you became so draining? Friends think you’re doing great, yet inside you feel pressure to keep advancing and wonder what it’s all for. Relationships can feel just as complicated, especially when desire clashes with your values or what you “should” want. You may feel lonely even around people. You’re good at thinking logically, but thinking harder hasn’t helped; it keeps you stuck. You want relief, clarity, and a steadier sense of self in work and relationships. I help you step out of overthinking, self-criticism, overwhelm, and repeating relationship loops. We’ll pause when you’d normally push harder, notice thoughts, emotions, and body cues, and make room for a different response. We’ll connect patterns to past experiences, clarify your values, and hold values and feelings without shame so choices feel aligned. If you’ve tried self-help or even AI to “figure it out” and still feel stuck, you’re not alone. Therapy is different: a real relationship where you don’t have to carry the hidden parts by yourself, and support can go deeper than insight alone. We’ll go at a pace that feels safe and honest. If this resonates, reach out to schedule a first session.

We are dedicated to providing a caring, nonjudgmental space where you can feel open to sharing vulnerabilities and telling your unique stories. Our therapists seek to help you recognize and build upon your strengths and resiliency to make the changes that matter most to you, to heal from past hurts, and to create greater happiness and fulfillment. Hi! My name is Alicia, and I want to meet you. Yes, you! College can be intense. You're away from home with the pressure to succeed and do well, but there's also dealing with roommates, parties, and being around people who resemble aliens. You know, they just don't get you and you've never encountered anyone quite like them before. On top of this, you may be the first in your family to go to college. You can't admit to them that it's hard. They had all their hopes and dreams riding on you. So where to go? Come to therapy! Yes, therapy. It may be your first time talking to someone, but I promise it helps to tell someone what you're thinking and what you're feeling. College doesn't have to be scary, and you don't have to go through it alone. We can figure it out together. I am a licensed clinical social worker who has worked with many college students, especially those who identify as first-gen and/or veterans. Therapy with me is conversational. In sessions, you can speak freely. I'm not into judging. That would probably make me a lousy therapist. I offer thoughtful reflection and point out patterns in your behavior that may not be the most helpful, and then we problem-solve and strategize solutions to help get you feeling better. I can also teach you skills to help when your emotions feel overwhelming.

Being a student can bring a lot of pressure, uncertainty, and emotional weight. If you are feeling stuck, anxious, or carrying pain that is hard to explain, you are not alone. I am here to support you and help you make sense of what you are experiencing in a way that feels honest and respectful. My approach is trauma informed, queer affirming, and non-more pathologizing. I believe your symptoms make sense in the context of your experiences. Together we will explore those patterns with care and curiosity, not judgment. I draw from EMDR, Internal Family Systems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Eastern philosophy to support healing, growth, and connection to your values. This work is always shaped by you, your story, your pace, and your goals. If you are ready to begin or just curious about starting, I would be happy to connect.

You deserve to live a life with more joy, ease and confidence. Therapy doesn't have to be a one-sided relationship where you're mulling over your entire life's history and all of the pain! In fact, it can be an enjoyable process; a full, engaging relationship with humor, intellect, creativity, spark and curiosity. I'm a real person in the room with you. Together, we will explore solutions and new ways of thinking, feeling and acting. You and I can experiment in sessions to tap into resources or to find new tools to unburden you from emotional pain, whether that be with mindfulness, cognitive, somatic or creative techniques. With 15+ years of experience, many clients have reported positive changes from our work, including less anxiety, more awareness and clarity and healthier relationships. I also specialize working with ACoAs & Codependency. My first job in the field was working at a college counseling center so I'm also very familiar with working with the 18+ crowd and all of the hassles that can come with college living, relationships and school.

I am passionate about providing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to individuals of all ages who are struggling with anxiety, depression, social challenges, fears, phobias, and OCD. I have worked to effectively adapt TEAM-CBT tools and techniques to help children and adolescents, while connecting with them in a way that is relatable and engaging. I also provide support to parents navigating the challenges of parenting. I have lived and worked on the Upper East Side with my family for over 6 years, so I understand the unique challenges and demands city families face. Therapy may feel like endless talking without any results or improvement in your life, but if you’re ready to work hard to meet your treatment goals, I use an approach to therapy that can give you the change you are looking for. Together we will create a treatment plan that reflects your goals, and the changes you want to see in your life. My approach to therapy is active, collaborative, and results driven. I provide my patients with concrete skills to overcome their anxiety, depression, and fears to help them get back to living a more satisfying, and enjoyable life. I push my patients to work hard to get better, so that they can achieve the results they desire. I try to develop a caring, collaborative, and supportive relationship with all my patients and their families. I strive to understand you and your family dynamics so that I can be the most effective therapist possible. Utilizing an evidence based, and highly effective approach called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, you will see noticeable change in your life within 8-10 sessions. I monitor symptoms at the beginning and end of every session so we know precisely how we are doing towards meeting your goals. As your comfort with utilizing these skills improves, you will learn how to cope with the challenges you face and soon feel ready to handle them on your own! While I hate saying good-bye to patients, it is very rewarding to end our therapy sessions knowing that our time together has provided my patients with the tools to be happier and more confident in their life.
