Clinical Social Work/Therapist
The Bronx, NY

I was called to this work at a young age after seeing that many people in my neighborhood in the Bronx and in my parents’ home country had no access to mental health care. I wanted to be able to provide mental health support to people from all walks of life. I received my bachelor's of science in psychology from Fordham University, where I subsequently completed my Master of Social Work degree. Following graduation, I became a family therapist, helping parents and youth work on complex family issues and conflict resolution. I worked in a variety of settings, including psychiatric residences, homeless outreach, New York City’s Administration for Children's Services, and a group psychotherapy practice in the Financial District. I currently provide individual psychotherapy as a private practitioner in addition to working at Montefiore Medical Center as a senior mental health specialist. I strive to create a welcoming environment from the very first session. I believe in forming a strong alliance with my clients to create a comfortable space to open up about personal struggles. Collaboration, humor, and validation are key components to my work. I guide people in learning skills that are applicable to everyday life. I was raised in a very racially, ethnically, and religiously diverse environment. Support of marginalized people is a core part of my worldview and translates into my practice. I enjoy working with individuals of diverse backgrounds and identities and helping them navigate the modern world.

It's been an endless search for a therapist who really gets you. Someone who can dive into your problems without making you feel you have to compartmentalize important parts of your life. Someone who can be a safe sounding board whatever comes up. I want you to know it's ok to show up however you're feeling that day. It's ok to open up at your own pace. I will be right here beside you as you discover unique pathways towards resilience, fulfillment and fun. I center the needs of non-binary & other LGBTQ people in my practice. I help people navigate: stress management and resilience; emotional impact of chronic illness; family of origin issues; and enhancing fulfillment in all sorts of relationships through increased self-knowledge, communication, and collaboration. I believe therapy is most effective when it is a dynamic, collaborative process that integrates the wisdom of our body, mind and spiritual self. I use various approaches including Brainspotting, Heartmath, and mindfulness-based somatic therapy, that allow us to access the deep healing potential of brain, body and mind. I specialize in treating anxiety, panic, stress, OCD, relationship challenges, and transitions. Are your thoughts and behaviors self-defeating at times, blocking you from what you really want in life? We all see the world through different lenses, which are formed and strengthened by our genes, the messages we received growing up, and our accumulated experiences. Sometimes this lens can become distorted, causing us to perceive and interact with the world in unhelpful ways. Certain thinking and behavioral patterns may get in the way of relationships with others, with work, and with ourselves. Psychotherapy can be a really important resource for preserving self-care and building resiliency. Whether you are seeking therapy to work on a specific concern or goal, to get through a tough time, or to understand yourself better, I strive to provide my clients with a supportive, collaborative, and judgment-free space. Our work together will involve understanding your unique patterns and developing skills to cope with unhelpful thoughts and overwhelming emotions, decrease unworkable behaviors, and increase value-driven living. Email for a complimentary phone consultation. For policy and pricing FAQ, please view www.nicolereinertherapy.com.

Clinical Social Work/Therapist

I am a New York State licensed Psychotherapist experienced in working with a broad range of issues including depression, anxiety, loss and grief, LGBTQIA+ issues, family and relationship struggles, identity, complex life transitions, and trauma ranging from the personal to systemic. I am a graduate of Hunter College’s Silberman School of Social Work and completed training in working with Couples and Families through the Ackerman Institute for the Family and advanced post graduate training in Relational Therapy at the Stephen A. Mitchell Center for Relational Studies. I bring warmth, deep listening, honesty, cultural sensitivity and humility, and a spirit of collaboration, authenticity, and humor to my therapeutic work with adolescents, adults, couples, and families. I have worked extensively with adolescents and emergent adults and understand that these junctures typically involve a great deal of growth and change. This can in turn be exciting and wonderful, and also sometimes disorienting and overwhelming. I approach therapy as a collaborative exploration of an individual's lived experiences, the meanings they make out of these experiences, and the relationships they cultivate with self and others in the context of these experiences and meaning-making. In therapy together we slow these conscious and lesser conscious processes down to better understand what might be happening, where people may be stuck in self-limiting narratives or patterns, where resilience, joy, and strength can be recognized, and where growth and change are possible.

Are you highly attuned to others, having been told you're "too sensitive"? Do you struggle with setting boundaries, people-pleasing or burning out from perfectionism and a constantly full calendar? It can be exhausting to balance the weight of being highly sensitive while also meeting the standards set by us, our families, and communities. These behaviors are often connected to earlier relationships, such as family dynamics that can shape how we interact with others later in life. Therapy is a space to help you explore how past relationships shape your present, empowering you to respond to stress in ways that honor your needs. I'm an LCSW with 7+ years of experience working with members of the queer community, neurodiverse individuals, and those managing chronic mental health and medical conditions. I’ve spent my career supporting individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, and complex family dynamics. We'll collaborate together to identify and work towards goals that will help you take ownership over your life and build the reality you want to see. Whether it's setting boundaries with parents, letting go of perfectionism, or beginning a challenging career endeavor- I’m here to listen and support you with warmth, curiosity, silliness, and honesty. I'm a queer, Jewish therapist who has experience working with queer Jewish community ranging from those who identify as secular to Orthodox. Navigating queerness from a religious framework has its own unique challenges. Regardless of your background, we'll work together to explore your identity and how that interacts with the world around you.
