Therapists for college students near 10003
Take heart! I want to say it is our actual, living birthright to heal any disempowering history, whether circumstantial, or chronic. Over the years, students have come with trauma, depression, anxiety, identity and spiritual concerns, academic pressures, relationship, family, and work conflicts - each can begin to shift as we change our familiar thoughts, feelings, and relationship to the past. This is the contract we honor in a therapeutic partnership. I have made it my life's work to train with the originators of powerful techniques engaging the mind, heart, and spirit - from the unconscious to the transpersonal - so that you can step out of your own way, & shift into relief, and resolution! This is the work we have been accomplishing together in therapeutic alliance for 25+ years. The best way to reach me is (845)256-0047.
I specialize in working with folks who struggle with recurring panic attacks, anxiety, or intrusive thoughts and repetitive behaviors. I teach you how anxiety and panic actually work so you can build skills to finally take back control and live more confidently.
I’m a caring, outdoor loving, problem solving person at heart. I’m passionate about helping others feel alive, confident and encouraged. I have found many tools along my professional and personal journey to support people in managing painful emotions, de-escalating family and partner conflict and living a life informed, not run, by emotions. I’ve experienced how strong and complicated, messy and beautiful families can be. I’ve also seen how trauma, seemingly “small” or “large,” can affect a person and those closest to them, how it can empower and debilitate. Emotions can be confusing and they can also help cultivate our strengths. When it comes to facing painful emotions, people can sometimes feel alone, scared and hopeless, with nowhere to turn. There are resources, places, people and skills that can help. You don’t have to do this alone. I want you to know that it’s possible to find comfort and hope in the midst of loss, trauma, conflict or whatever challenge you may be facing. While I believe one of the most important factors in making therapy work for you is how you connect with your therapist, it’s also important you be given the tools and care to move you toward your goals. All too often I’ve seen how discouraged people become by mental health care and it’s my goal to provide a service that is routed in effective methods and treatment and a genuine, caring space for you to share and shape your story. I am committed to helping individuals and families get “unstuck” and lead you toward experiencing joy, genuine connection, hope and the ability to access your strengths, passions and resources. No matter what your age, socio-economic status, religion, race, sexual orientation, gender identity or culture, mental health can affect us all; and sometimes these factors can unfairly make it even more challenging to navigate. I provide a safe, non-judgmental space for everyone to talk and heal.

Evolutionary Holistic Healing infuses mind-body practices into the therapeutic process to help clients explore healing beyond traditional psychotherapeutic talk-therapy. Our mission is to emphasize the importance of integrating psychotherapy with movement, music, aromatherapy, artworks, nature, and breath work to establish equilibrium; therein, inviting the body to join the mind in its establishment of therapeutic attunement. We view each person as a whole being made up of many parts working in concert with one another to fully embrace the evolutionary progression of healing. We believe that a person is not defined by their condition; but rather, that individuals can achieve good health by strengthening their emotional, physical, social and mental wellness. We strive to mindfully stand in the entire experience of being human. It is then we can whole-heartedly step into the power of self-awareness, self-empowerment, and self-love.
Young adulthood is a time of transitions, growth and self discovery. While many new challenges can be exciting, this time of exploration can also become overwhelming. There can be a lot of “shoulds”, comparisons and uncertainty. My office is a safe space to process through all of these thoughts and feelings without feeling judged or criticized. Together we work to figure out a path to help you build the necessary skills and insights to launch into the adult life you are seeking. I love working with young adults and college students to help them embrace this season of their life. As a Registered Yoga Teacher I value the connection between the mind and body and what stress does to our overall well being. With that being said- if yoga/meditation/mindfulness is not your thing it does not need to be involved in your treatment. I always work to creatively match the evidenced based treatment modalities I am trained in to fit a client’s unique goals and strengths. Many of the people I work with are Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) who are struggling to navigate multiple areas of their life like work, school, family, relationships, or the intersectionalities of their identities. Many talk about often feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or stuck. This then kicks off to what feels like a never ending cycle of confusion, frustration, depression, and anxiety. Therapy is an opportunity to find clarity and work through these obstacles to help people get their life back on track. My clients and I work together to develop more mindful behaviors to help lead a more meaningful and healthy life. People develop certain attitudes and perspectives based on their early life experiences to survive when they were younger. But these attitudes and perspectives are not helping now which is part of the reason why people might feel stuck. By looking at these attitudes and perspectives closely, people can learn to change how they talk to themselves, how they react to their emotions. and take more thoughtful actions to move forward towards a more authentic and fulfilling life. My practice integrates several evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) that encompasses principles of person-centered, recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, multiculturalism, and strength-based values. With my compassionate, collaborative, non-judgmental, and down-to-earth style, therapy can address the things that are getting in the way of people’s life so that they can move forward. COMMON EXPERIENCES THAT I WORK WITH PEOPLE ON: - It feels like your mind is playing tricks on you - It feels like your eyes or ears are playing tricks on you - It feels like something odd is going on or hard to explain - Confused at times whether something is real or imaginary - You feel suspicious or mistrustful of others - It feels like you have little control over your thoughts - It feels like others can hear your thoughts or read your mind - Having thoughts or beliefs that you or others find strange - Race-related identity, culture, and intersectionality - Cultural and systemic trauma and oppression
