You’ve always been the one who holds it all together — dependable, driven, the go-to person when others need support. But lately, it might feel like the pressure to succeed is coming at the cost of your peace. You’re not alone in that feeling. I work with students who appear to be doing “just fine” on the outside, but underneath are carrying anxiety, self-doubt, and the weight of high expectations. Together, we’ll create space to explore how your past experiences, values, and internal narratives are shaping the way you move through the world — and gently question whether those patterns are still serving you. Therapy with me is relational, collaborative, and grounded in curiosity. You don’t need to show up with the perfect words or a clear goal — just a willingness to begin.

Is it just me, or do a lot of these "bios" start to sound the same after a while? Finding a therapist online is difficult, which I know from personal experience. I am here to provide connections, help facilitate joy and offer a space for you to learn to express your needs and be supported. Our practice together will value your lived experiences as the primary material and will be co-created through empathy and open communication. These systems of mental health are not ones that want us to "feel better", thanks to capitalism and systemic racism. I want to offer a space to fight against that. I have experience working with "high-risk" (read, traumatized and hurt) people living with mental illnesses and difficult experiences. I am comfortable working with what is often labeled as the more "severe" diagnoses and I focus of finding the health in every individual. I am a New York State licensed creative arts therapist and a board certified dance/movement therapist. This helps me in finding creative and expressive ways to connect in therapy spaces for all different types of people. I believe we can all benefit from some extra support lately! Contact me for a free consult to see if working together will be a good fit.

You may be entering a new stage in your life, whether it is heading to college and moving out of your childhood home, starting your career, choosing to seek graduate or advanced training, or becoming serious in a committed relationship and starting your own family. You know what you want to achieve, but need additional support in navigating the stresses of setting off on this new path. Or maybe you want help in redefining the roles your family members and loved ones have in your life as you walk towards adulthood in a chaotic world. Maybe you have started your own family and made the decision to become a parent. You may want to parent differently than your parents, but are unsure how. You might be experiencing anxiety around being responsible for a vulnerable new human being. Children can be mirrors, reflecting our own experiences of childhood back onto us. Perhaps past painful experiences of not having your own needs met in childhood are bubbling up and you want to have a safe space to process and explore those experiences. Making lasting change can be difficult for most, and choosing therapy is the first step on the path towards positive growth and change.

Hi! If you’re seeking out therapy, then it’s likely you’re a little nervous. If so, take a deep breath! I’m here to create a space where you feel safe and supported as you share your personal story. In therapy we will focus on practical skills for addressing your symptoms and explore how your story of self has been shaped by both current and past relationships. I enjoy working with emerging adults, adolescents, and anyone eager to build a “life worth living.” I believe that in healing there is room for humor. And that my authenticity allows us to do great work together. When I’m not working I love going to the dog park and watching reality tv. If you’re interested, please reach out and we can schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation to see if we’re a good fit!

You may be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from yourself or others. Maybe you’re navigating a major transition, noticing old patterns that no longer serve you, or carrying the weight of difficult life experiences. Many of my clients are immigrants, first-generation individuals, members of LGBTQ+ community or those impacted by social and political uncertainty, seeking greater connection, support in difficult times, and self-understanding.

At the heart of my work is the belief that growth begins when we turn inward; not only to solve problems, but to truly listen. Beneath stress, self-doubt, and burnout is often a quieter call for balance, meaning, and wholeness. In our sessions, I’ll invite you to slow down, tune in, and reconnect with parts of yourself that may have been overshadowed by deadlines, expectations, or the pressure to achieve. My approach blends psychodynamic and somatic (body-centered) therapy to explore both your inner world (unconscious patterns, images, and beliefs) and the lived experience of your body, where insight and change can take root. I’m LGBTQIA+ affirming and work with students navigating anxiety, perfectionism, burnout, creative blocks, identity questions, and challenges with eating and body image, relationships, self-worth, or belonging. I’m particularly drawn to working with artists and creatives. What matters most to me is creating a space that is open, safe, and judgment-free; a space where you can explore who you are, discover your own meaning, and move toward a life that feels both authentic and sustainable. You scroll through social media—past the highlights of trips, engagement announcements, and large friends/family gatherings—that familiar ache settles in your chest. You’ve been hurt, and it’s affected your ability to form healthy connections where you feel safe, seen, heard, and validated. Opening up—being vulnerable—feels like a struggle, and you know it’s keeping you stuck and alone. It’s not that you haven’t tried. You’ve been open, set boundaries, and “put yourself out there”. You’ve invested time, energy, and effort into making your relationships work. Yet you're feeling stuck, frustrated, wondering where I'm going wrong. I work with individuals in New York who want to break old relationship patterns and build connections that actually feel good. My warm, collaborative style blends solution-focused, psychodynamic, and person-centered approaches. I offer affirming care for LGBTQIA+ clients and those in non-traditional relationships. Healing from relationship pain takes courage and care—and you don’t have to do it alone. Whether you’re single, dating, in a situationship, or exploring polyamory, we’ll move forward with curiosity, not judgment. If you’re ready to stop repeating patterns and start building relationships that feel safe and supportive, I’d be honored to work with you.

I work with motivated clients on a variety of issues ranging from relationship challenges, adjusting to school, anxiety, and depression, to grief and loss, trauma, and complex family dynamics. I help clients learn to observe a wider range of variables that are contributing to problems and make meaningful behavioral changes. Anyone who is motived to find new solutions can benefit from this work, even in a short period of time.

You deserve to live a life with more joy, ease and confidence. Therapy doesn't have to be a one-sided relationship where you're mulling over your entire life's history and all of the pain! In fact, it can be an enjoyable process; a full, engaging relationship with humor, intellect, creativity, spark and curiosity. I'm a real person in the room with you. Together, we will explore solutions and new ways of thinking, feeling and acting. You and I can experiment in sessions to tap into resources or to find new tools to unburden you from emotional pain, whether that be with mindfulness, cognitive, somatic or creative techniques. With 15+ years of experience, many clients have reported positive changes from our work, including less anxiety, more awareness and clarity and healthier relationships. I also specialize working with ACoAs & Codependency. My first job in the field was working at a college counseling center so I'm also very familiar with working with the 18+ crowd and all of the hassles that can come with college living, relationships and school.

I'm Joe. I'm a kind, compassionate therapist who works well with folks who are curious about who they are and what kind of life they want to build. With this spirit of curiosity we can explore what has gotten in your way and where you want to go: how your past coping methods served you then, but not now; how we can improve your ability to communicate with yourself and others; how to feel more centered and clear on your desires and goals. I have special experience and ability to support folks in the queer, trans and broader LGBTQ+ communities. I also support relationship systems (including both monogamous couples and open/poly systems) with navigating their challenges in work, love, and play. Throughout all my work, I practice from an anti-oppression and anti-racism mindset. If anything above sparked your interest, and you think I might be able to help, let's find a time to connect.
