Hello, I'm Dr. Clifford (please feel free to call me Heather!). I bring a compassionate and a caring approach to therapy that is trauma informed and queer affirming. The transition to young adulthood can be a time of major changes, successes, and disappointments. The pressure of being a young adult and figuring out "the future" is often overwhelming and anxiety provoking. You may be questioning your values, sexuality, relationships and career aspirations. I specialize in helping college students explore the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are getting in the way of them living a life that is in line with their values. Through our work together I can help you clarify what is important to you and develop skills to help you live the life you choose. I use evidenced based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help support you become present and participate in the important parts of life. I often incorporate mindfulness and compassion focused exercises during sessions. I am committed to unlearning oppressive biases and beliefs including but not limited to white supremacy, racism, ableism, homophobia, and fatphobia. I believe that these systems of oppression hugely impact our mental health and come to play in the therapy room. I am always open to discuss and explore these topics.

It can be hard juggling everything life is throwing at you. I'm you ally cheering you on, an advocate on your side, giving you tips on how to succeed. Are you highly attuned to others, having been told you're "too sensitive"? Do you struggle with setting boundaries, people-pleasing or burning out from perfectionism and a constantly full calendar? It can be exhausting to balance the weight of being highly sensitive while also meeting the standards set by us, our families, and communities. These behaviors are often connected to earlier relationships, such as family dynamics that can shape how we interact with others later in life. Therapy is a space to help you explore how past relationships shape your present, empowering you to respond to stress in ways that honor your needs. I'm an LCSW with 7+ years of experience working with members of the queer community, neurodiverse individuals, and those managing chronic mental health and medical conditions. I’ve spent my career supporting individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, and complex family dynamics. We'll collaborate together to identify and work towards goals that will help you take ownership over your life and build the reality you want to see. Whether it's setting boundaries with parents, letting go of perfectionism, or beginning a challenging career endeavor- I’m here to listen and support you with warmth, curiosity, silliness, and honesty. I'm a queer, Jewish therapist who has experience working with queer Jewish community ranging from those who identify as secular to Orthodox. Navigating queerness from a religious framework has its own unique challenges. Regardless of your background, we'll work together to explore your identity and how that interacts with the world around you.

As a psychotherapist, school counselor, learning specialist, and executive function coach with over twenty years of experience, my eclectic background informs my holistic and neurodiversity-affirming approach to coaching and counseling. Sessions are individualized and collaborative, while providing a supportive and accepting environment for growth. I meet you where you are at now and help you progress toward your goals at a pace that is comfortable for you. My clinical and teaching experience includes working in schools and agency settings. For eight years, I worked as a learning specialist for students with disabilities at Columbia University in which I provided executive function coaching, academic counseling, and learning support. In my private practice, I continue to work with university and professional students, as well as adults in all stages of life. My clients feel safe, supported, and motivated by the work we do together, and I am committed to helping others recognize and cultivate their unique gifts.
My goal as a therapist is to create a supportive environment for folks to explore their gender and sexuality. Perhaps you identify as queer, bi, lesbian, gay, pan, ace, trans, nonbinary, agender, poly, kinky, something else, all of the above, or nothing at all. You deserve to have a space where you can learn more about your identity without judgment or pressure. As a queer person who has sought out therapy myself, I know how challenging it can be to find an affirming therapist. Even if your identity isn’t central to your therapy goals, I will always aim to honor and validate every part of who you are in our work. My therapeutic style is collaborative and anti-oppressive. My approach is integrative, using tools from a variety of therapeutic modalities—relational, CBT, narrative, sex therapy—that are best suited to each unique client. In addition to specializing in identity, I support clients experiencing depression, anxiety, OCD, trauma, and relationship issues. My aim is to co-create a space with you that facilitates growth, emotional awareness, and authentic self-expression. Please reach out if you have any questions about my work or about therapy more generally. I'm glad that you're seeking out the care you need right now, and I hope that we have the opportunity to connect more soon.
