I’ve always thought that the most beautiful and interesting trees in the forest are the ones that grow into unique forms, shaped by their environment but finding a way to adapt and thrive. Similarly, life’s challenges can shape us in profound ways, but they can also leave us feeling overwhelmed, misunderstood, or stuck. I’m Rob Gooding, a second-year graduate student at St. Bonaventure University studying Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am deeply passionate about helping individuals navigate these challenges and uncover their inner resilience to live fulfilling and authentic lives. I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship as a foundation for growth and healing. To me, it’s a privilege to walk alongside clients as they share their stories and embark on their journey toward self-discovery and empowerment. My approach is grounded in person-centered principles, recognizing that you are the expert in your own life. I strive to create a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, valued, and supported. By integrating evidence-based techniques like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and Solution-Focused Therapy, I work with clients to reframe negative thought patterns, develop practical skills, and prioritize their needs. Together, we’ll build tools to navigate challenges with confidence and clarity. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, academic pressures, identity exploration, or life transitions, you don’t have to face it alone. I’m here to help you rediscover your strengths, adapt to life’s demands, and create meaningful change. Just like those unique trees in the forest, your story is one of resilience and growth – and it would be an honor to support you on your path. Robert Gooding is a therapist in-training at Sol Health. From a young age, I felt driven by a deep curiosity about the inner worlds of others. Our inner world is uniquely shaped by our individual lived experiences, making each of us distinct in how we perceive and navigate life. I aim to foster a space that allows for the exploration of how one's lived experiences shapes identity, contribute to repeating patterns and impacts our relationship with ourselves and others. With a warm, collaborative and non-judgmental approach, I support clients in navigating challenges such as anxiety, depression, life transitions, self-esteem, identity and interpersonal relationships. Blending psychodynamic, relational and DBT practices along with mindfulness techniques, I strive to create a safe space for exploration and growth. With extensive experience supporting adults and students in both private and public mental health settings, I bring a rich and diverse perspective to the therapeutic process. To me counseling is a delicate and committed process that involves honoring each client's experience and working together to expand self-awareness and connection.

With warmth, empathy and humor, I create a non-judgemental, and safe environment in which to explore and resolve challenging issues. I am a solution-focused therapist, and my primary goals are the relief of distressing symptoms, restoring emotional balance and clarity of thought, improving self regulation, developing more stable and intimate relationships, and having a more satisfying life experience. While we can't change difficult experiences of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in the present.

I am a Clinical Social Worker in New York State. I specialize in treating anxiety and depression in adolescents and adults using evidence based methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. Our college years are one of the best years of my life. It was a time where I experienced a major shift in the way I saw the world and reframed many of my lived experiences. College was also one of the most stressful times in my life. The deadlines, the professors who didn't care I had other classes to study for, the part-time work and wok study...so many all nighters. And somehow making time to be social. All of these things make uo the college experience but I realized, many years later, that some things, such as the constant worrying about deadlines, the panic sweat waiting for my professors to give me feedback, and the fact I typically slept four hours a day, were not normal things I should have "pushed through" as I often told myself those days. I wished someone had been there to tell me to step back and take care of myself more. Now, as a therapist, I hope I can be the person who helps get you through the dualities that is your college years.

“What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” -Mary Oliver I've been thinking about this every day since the first time I read it (or rather the first time it smacked me in the face, oh, so many years ago). It's some question, isn't it? Sometimes it inspires me. Sometimes it frightens me. Since it always challenges me, I've rooted my practice philosophy in it. It's kind of like the adult version of 'what do you want to be when you grow up'? How in the world do we answer that? If the question moves you like it does me then we're probably a good fit. Let's talk about the complexities of making life choices and finding fulfillment.

Thank you for reviewing my profile and see if we could be a good fit! My experience includes working with individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, self-esteem, and relationship issues. Additionally, I work with many clients dealing with career or school related stress. Prior to my work as a Mental Health Counselor, I worked in the corporate world of fashion, which gave me a deep understanding of how a fast-paced and demanding work environment can affect one’s well-being. I believe the most important factor is the relationship between myself and my clients. A genuine, trusting relationship is so critical for this work. My initial training was at Northwestern University, and was centered in a psychodynamic approach; however, I have additional training in, Mindfulness, EMDR, CBT, and IFS approaches. This allows me to pull from multiple techniques to do what is best for each client and their goals. I work collaboratively with individuals. I want to hear your input as we devise a plan on how to reach your goals. You can expect me to check in often on how you feel therapy is going, and use feedback to help modify our approach as needed. Looking forward to meeting you and seeing if we could be a good fit!

I believe therapy means making you feel deeply known and accepted, and by creating a warm and secure bond opens the space for long-lasting, personal growth. I appreciate how some old habits you have picked up at an earlier point may no longer serve you now. The process of understanding yourself with compassion and learning new ways of being in the world isn't always easy, but I'll be with you every step of the way. Together we can find and solve the "stuck points" holding you back from living a full and meaningful life. I work with individual adults focusing on mood and personality issues. As your therapist, my goal is to help you live up to the best version of yourself. My approach centers on harnessing your unique strengths in building the bridge between where you are and where you want to be. I take an integrative approach that reflects my dual training in transference-based theory such as Schema and evidence-based theory such as CBT. Thus, my treatment balances the exploration of experiential life with actionable change.
