Therapists for college students near New York, NY
I have been in practice in Rochester for many years and received all of my medical and psychiatric training at the University of Rochester, home of the biopsychosocial model. I have enjoyed treating students and members of the medical community. I am one of the few psychiatrists in town that continues to offer psychotherapy, both individual and group therapy.
Sometimes we all need a little help. No one has life all figured out. We are all a work in progress. That is especially true of young adults transitioning from high school into college, or from college into the working world. Relationships with parents are changing, romantic relationships may begin or end, friendships change, and we may grow apart from people who we thought we'd be friends with forever. These are challenging times to be alive, and sometimes it's helpful to talk about what you're going through with an objective third party, a therapist, someone to validate your feelings and give honest feedback in a kind, gentle manner. I help my patients learn healthy coping skills and try different strategies to deal with whatever mental health challenges they are facing. With 18 years experience, I'm sure I can find some strategies that will help you too. Please feel free to reach out when you are ready!
You may find yourself feeling soft spoken, timid, and meek- but secretly waiting to speak- you feel like you are tirelessly trying to keep pace in a world that does not align with your rhythm. If feelings of anxiety are consuming or camouflaging themselves as reoccurring & normal, I am an expert in supporting you in breaking out of your shell, and dismantling old narratives about anxiety, and ADHD. I support clients in exploring their pasts to inform their future, and take control of their narrative. I believe building a healthy connection with yourself is the springboard to living a more fulfilling life and can enhance your ability to form deeper relationships, and show up for yourselves and others in a more grounded way. I do not practice with a one-size fits all approach, and empower clients to take the lead in their experience. I service NY & CT residents. As a therapist, I encourage you to bring the “messiest” parts of yourself into the room during our sessions. I strive to create a safe, yet empowering space for all my clients, especially for those who hold marginalized identities. I let you set the pace of treatment and help you build confidence in your innate abilities to persevere and heal during difficult seasons of life. I also encourage you to provide feedback throughout our time together, so that we can make treatment as impactful and positive as possible. I believe that the most important aspect of our work together involves building a strong therapeutic relationship, so you can also expect a deep interest in you as a person outside of presenting concerns or diagnoses. Feel free to reach out if I sound like a good fit for you and your current needs. Either way, I wish you luck on your healing journey!
Sometimes life seems to be throwing too many things at us all at once. Counseling can help you develop tools to slow things down and deal with them in the way that works best for you. Whether the problem feels big or small, we can all use a little help sometimes. Let me help you create your own path forward.
I believe that being in therapy is about creating space for positive change. When we can slow down and make room for ourselves, we can grow and create lasting adjustments that make our lives more balanced and enjoyable. I work collaboratively with clients, providing a safe and non-judgmental space to explore issues, problem solve, navigate life transitions, develop new and creative coping skills, and strengthen one’s relationship with themselves and with others. I specialize in helping with stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and addiction recovery. I also work extensively with artists of all kinds who are experiencing creative blocks or stagnation in their art/creative practices and life. Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses art materials and the creative process to help people express, process, and integrate their thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Art therapy is for everyone, not just people who identify as artists or have experience with the visual arts. Clients see me for talk therapy and or art therapy. All sessions are tailored to the preferences and goals of my clients. My approach is holistic and person-center, integrating traditional talk therapies and art therapy with mindfulness/body-based practices. I am a patient and compassionate therapist, who values humor and direct communication, dedicated to supporting my clients in their healing process and personal growth, enacting the changes they desire to see within themselves.

Stress, anxiety, social isolation and depression lead many college age students into therapy. Many times these problems are rooted in low self-esteem. Utilizing different modalities I can help you work on these life stressors so you can lead a productive and better life. I will give you the tools to work with.
Hi, I'm Kayla! My goal as a therapist is to guide my clients to learn various coping strategies to help them help themselves. I assist clients with building their toolkit to give them the necessary skills to help them better manage stress. I have experience helping children, teens and families through all different stages of life. As a part of the Insightful Paths Team, I am fully licensed in New York and able to serve any areas of NY by offering tele-health sessions. My approach to therapy is built around what works best for the client. I've worked with various ages in one-on-one or family sessions with focuses ranging from depression, anxiety, autism, ADHD, RAD (reactive attachment disorder), and ODD (oppositional defiant disorder). The therapeutic interventions I use are rooted in CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), DBT (dialectical behavior therapy), and art therapy. While some clients prefer art/games, others may prefer strictly talk-based interventions; while others may prefer a combination. I look forward to working together so we can reach your individual or family goals!
People often come to a therapist because they want to talk about being anxious, being lonely, feeling depressed, having difficulty in relationships, or having a hard time taking care of themselves and others. I aim to help people to reduce symptoms (e.g., anxiety) and, more generally, to engage in personal growth and to foster a more connected, meaningful life. I will work with you to help you cope more effectively with life stressors; in doing so, I focus on your values, strengths, and potential. I have specialized training in working with individuals with chronic illness and/or eating and weight-related problems, including adolescents, college students, and adults. I completed my clinical training at Yale University and at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. I am currently a Lecturer at Princeton University and the Supervising Psychologist at the Princeton Center for Eating Disorders. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have all been challenged in our relationships, our work, our empathy, and our resilience. I aim to help others navigate associated feelings of loneliness, worry, anger, and sadness, and I work to help people adapt to changing and uncertain times. My practice is telehealth-only; I am able to see patients in RI, CT, NY, FL, and NJ.
