Hello! I have over 20 years of experience working as a counselor and social worker and enjoy working with people of all ages. I employ techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy, tapping, and motivational interviewing to assist my clients. I have a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach. I believe in meeting people where they are at, and empowering them to do the things that they want to do, not the things others tell them they should be doing. Many of my clients have told me that I am easy to talk to, a good listener, and nonjudgmental. My communication during therapy is truthful and real. My tone and demeanor will fit what you need - some people desire a soft and gentle tone, and some people want to get straight to the point. I believe that it is important to hear a person's story and understand what their goals are before beginning any treatment. In our first session, we will talk about why you came to counseling and what you hope to achieve while meeting with me. I'd like to hear from you if you think we might be a good fit. I am part of the Path referral network, which means that when you reach out, my team will get back to you quickly to schedule our first session. I am committed to making therapy affordable. Through Path, I am in-network for most commercial insurances, so you're only responsible for your co-pay!

Currently accepting clients in New York State for teletherapy and in-person in NYC! We work with most major insurance companies--call/email us to find out if our services are covered. Kip Therapy is therapy for every identity. Together, we’ll define and work on the things that make it difficult to find your place in the world—like being queer, processing trauma, navigating your most important relationships, entering into adulthood and careers, or struggling with self-esteem. Kip was originally founded to fill a gap in mental health care for members of the LGBTQ+ community. Many members of the Kip team have lived experiences as LGBTQ+ people, and it remains one of the primary reasons clients work with us. Through a LGBTQ+ affirming lens, our therapists focus on what makes you unique and how your experiences--your history, your identity, your culture--shape who you are and what you may be struggling with. Kip is a trailblazer in the mental health industry, serving clients in New York State. Since 2013, we’ve been rethinking and redesigning therapy for the 21st century. Our work is shaped by three guiding principles: Include-We provide care for individuals who have been excluded from traditional therapy, particularly members of the LGBTQ+ community. Invest-We offer training and support for emerging therapists to improve quality of care and unlock new opportunities for diverse clinicians. Innovate-We boldly push the field of psychotherapy forward, and evolve our own approach based on the latest best practices.

The mind is a powerful tool, incredibly powerful. We can think positive thoughts, we can think realistic thoughts and we can think negative thoughts. Some thoughts are fleeting and others forgotten. Some thoughts are rooted in our early impression of the world around us. We are committed to providing support with negative thought patterns and emotional dysregulation, providing individuals with the tools, knowledge, and the resources to overcome these challenges. Our team is committed to helping individuals achieve mental wellness and emotional stability. We utilize a strength-based, cognitive behavioral and person centered approach when working with individuals to address negative thought patterns, emotional instability, anxiety and depression.

I provide psychotherapy for young adults experiencing attention/executive functioning difficulties, anxiety, school/work stress, relationship issues, difficulty coping with life transitions, and more. I work with individuals to enhance self-understanding, improve communication skills, and develop effective solutions to achieve their goals. I draw from many treatment models and approaches, including developmental, cognitive behavioral, relationship-based, and collaborative problem-solving approaches. Typically, psychotherapy is weekly, and is always specifically tailored to meet each individual’s needs.
I am a New York State Licensed Creative Arts Therapist, New Mexico State Licensed Professional Art Therapist, and Nationally Board Certified Art Therapist, who offers talk therapy and art psychotherapy for adults seeking insight, personal growth and change--particularly after major life transition, grief, loss or trauma. These experiences may pertain to starting school, academic stressors, medical illness, injury, disability, relationships, loss of loved ones, job loss or instability, relocation, and certainly much more. In our sessions together we can explore issues that come up around the extreme shifts in how you know how to be in the world, your self expectations and sense of identity, feelings of confusion, and accompanying feelings of distress. We will gently address your stressors and any feelings of misunderstanding, alienation or isolation in order to ultimately foster integration, personal advocacy, individuation, and renewed inspiration for your next path forward. I will encourage you to access creative imagination through a holistic, psychodynamic, relational, transpersonal, social action, and anti-oppressive lens. This means that we will engage in deep processing discussion--alongside art, creative expression, guided visualization, mindfulness and some somatic therapy, including the option of Reiki--to help us learn more about your needs, barriers, and goals in the present and how to pivot with insight from the past. We will particularly look at the intersection of your individual mindset, conscious awareness, unconscious impulses, and psyche with the events and lived experiences you have been met with in the groups you have belonged to and the communities around you. We will also consider how each of us impacts those individuals and communities around us, and acknowledge how as we make positive change, those reverberations can aid our community in greater compassion, growth, and improvement for many others in big and small ways. You deserve to recognize, explore, nurture, and be reminded of your natural strength, resiliency, and capacity for insight, growth, and joy! While therapy may challenge you to make sense in new ways of past and current conflict, crisis, or loss, our work together will seek access to a state of calm within, and the wisdom which may be created from each and any situation: all with motivation, inspiration, acceptance, choice, and hope. Together--let's make change, and find comfort during change.

My experience as a therapist includes working at the NYU Counseling Services for many years. I have a deep understanding of the challenges both undergraduate and graduate students face with the changes, separations and transitions involved in becoming independent adults. It is a time filled with excitement as well as stress and worries about the future. The internal and external pressures, expectations from family and demands of the academic world can feel overwhelming at times. For graduate and doctoral students, there are the stressors of completing programs, dissertations and the challenges of seeking employment. Students may also be struggling with feeling alone, isolated, anxious, depressed, dealing with body image self-esteem and sexuality issues as well as social pressures around alcohol and other substances. Therapy can help in navigating these challenges, offer insight and reduce stress. I am a compassionate, extensively trained and interactive therapist. Together, we can work to develop strategies, address negative patterns of thought and behaviors, manage stress and help you deal with relationships more effectively. I am also trained and certified in clinical hypnosis which can be very useful in managing the physical and psychological symptoms of stress and anxiety including phobias, GI issues such as IBS as well as reducing symptoms of depression while increasing self-confidence and success.
Hey, glad you're here! Being a student is not just about education, is it? We've got lives outside of school, and all those moving parts can get us feeling overwhelmed, going a million miles per hour all the time, burnt out, lost, unmotivated, or even just numb. I work best with clients who are open to feedback, stay consistent in their care, and stay curious to explore different perspectives of their narrative. AKA, all I ask is that you show up to this space that I will prepare for you in which you can be totally you. Without the filters, photoshop, and all the overthinking of what the "right" thing to say is. You don't have to hold onto everything you're going through alone. Let's speak it out and game plan together on a weekly basis. If you feel like you don't even have the language to describe your experience, that's okay! We can build from the ground up. Maybe it'll help to think of it like this: I'm offering therapy like a key to a secret room that no one else has access to but you and I. You can learn and master skills in our therapeutic space, and it won't impact the real world at all because what happens and is heard in here, stays in here. That could look like role-playing a confrontational discussion you might've been avoiding with your roommate or just even saying an insecurity out loud for the first time and reality-checking it. It also just might be practicing how to say 'No' to different people in your life and finally setting boundaries that actually serve you. Then, when you're ready, you take those skills into the real world, and we watch your life change, perhaps slowly, but surely. Therapist shopping can definitely be overwhelming, so I invite you to get to know me through a 10-minute consultation through Zoom. I'll answer any questions, we'll be able to put a face and voice to the name, and you can feel out the overall vibe!
College can break you in quiet ways. Maybe you’re burnt out but still grinding. Anxious but still pretending. You can’t focus, you can’t sleep, you can’t talk about it without feeling like you’re being too much—or not enough. You’re not lazy. You’re not crazy. You’re just overwhelmed, and no one taught you how to deal with it. This is where that changes. Dr. Al-Katib works with college students who are overthinking everything, underperforming despite trying, and getting swallowed by pressure—academic, emotional, social, or all of the above. He helps with ADHD, anxiety, panic, burnout, identity, emotional numbness, and everything else that comes with growing up in chaos. His style is straightforward, respectful, and never sugarcoated. You’ll get strategy, clarity, and support that actually helps you move—not just talk about it. You don’t have to be falling apart to ask for help. But if you are—good. You’ve already taken the first step.
