Hi, I'm Lauren! I am a non-binary, queer AuDHD therapist practicing psychodynamic clinical social work in Massachusetts and Oregon. I also identify as white and mid-fat. My pronouns are she/they. In my practice, I specialize in working with adults who identify as, or are exploring whether they may be, LGBTQIA2S+ and/or neurodivergent, especially autistic and/or ADHD. In addition, I help clients work through issues related to depression, anxiety, and relational difficulties. Through an affirming and integrative approach, I provide a warm and supportive therapeutic environment for clients to explore their inner selves and make positive changes in their lives. My work with clients is collaborative, as together we delve into the reasons behind persistent challenges and unearth new aspects of their identities and experiences, ultimately making space for growth, healing, and flourishing. For neurodivergent clients, our sessions often involve working on strategies to improve executive functioning, which includes skills like task initiation, time management, organization, attention, and planning. My approach is aligned with the Health at Every Size (HAES) framework.

We all come into therapy for different reasons. Some people may have specific challenges they are looking to overcome, while others may just need to explore why they feel the way they do. Both in relationships and as individuals, often we first feel the barriers in front of us before we really understand where they are coming from. Challenges in my own life and the very complexities of identity itself have profoundly shaped my empathetic approach to life. I see therapy as a conversation, and I am deeply committed to maintaining an open dialogue with you. I also recognize that you are the expert on your own lived experiences. I am here to support you in your journey of resilience, empowerment, and self-discovery. I provide a space where you can feel safe exploring gender and sexual identities, overcoming the stigma of addiction, understanding the impact of discrimination, overcoming depression, anxiety, trauma and other intersecting issues. My approach to counseling is based on a holistic person-centered philosophy that emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. As a therapist, my primary goal is to empower you to take control of your journey toward change, providing a safe and collaborative space where we can work together.

I help adult individuals, youth and families navigate difficult times, process past traumas and become aware of unhelpful thinking patterns and habits. I have extensive experience assisting others in overcoming depression, PTSD, anxiety and trauma-based symptoms. I approach the therapeutic relationship with warmth, kindness, genuine curiosity and positive regard. I believe that the therapeutic relationship should be cooperative, honest and strength focused. This aligns with research on the subject showing that outcomes depend on a strong and genuine connection. I have been formally trained in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), family systems theory and collaborative problem solving (CPS). I hold a master’s degree in counseling psychology and strive to continue my own education and personal growth.

My approach to counseling is collaborative, compassionate, patient, and kind. I will focus on understanding you where you are at without judgement, so that you can have greater acceptance of yourself and your experience, and be able to be vulnerable and honest with someone who cares as you navigate the challenges you face. I don't believe that there are any "quick fixes" in therapy - rather, I see counseling as more like a journey of lasting change, personal growth, and self-development, one that can be achieved in relationship with someone who can support you and your process. My work focuses on people at all stages of life who are working through developmental transitions (leaving home, starting or ending a relationship, experiencing big life changes, etc.) who want to better understand who they are, and how they can become the best version of themself using the strengths they have within themselves. I help people to understand themselves and their patterns so they can identify and gain insight about their thoughts, feelings, and identify blind-spots to be able to make choices and move forward in a direction that feels best for them.

I find I am most helpful working with individual transition age youth and adults seeking help with bipolar and mood disorders, identity exploration, setting boundaries and navigating relationships, learning coping skills, making sense of traumatic experiences, and unpacking privilege and learning to be a better ally. I am comfortable and knowledgeable about topics relating to sex and sexuality, gender affirmation, sex positivity, poly/non-monogamy, and intersections of identity. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have been practicing therapy since 2015 and have been in social services for over 15 years, serving youth and adults experiencing legal consequences, houselessness, and severe mental illness in both inpatient and outpatient settings. My style tends to be curious, nonjudgmental and empathic, and I take a relational and collaborative approach. You are going to be putting in hard work and it is my job to be a good guide by offering insights, direction, and skill building. I am trained primarily in narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and solution focused therapy. I use an anti-oppressive, person centered, and trauma-informed framework. I strive to be culturally sensitive, anti-racist and queer/LGBTQIA+ affirming. I also know that I am not perfect, and I will ask for your honest feedback throughout the therapy process so that I can adjust and adapt my approach to best fit your needs. I am a queer [white cis male] person and have friends and family members with a lovely mix of intersecting identities. I started struggling with my identity, mental illness and legal run ins as a teenager, which led into a career path as a peer advocate, mentor, and mental health provider. I've done a lot of work on myself that I find valuable to my practice. While I believe my personal experience gives me knowledge, insight, and empathy, I also know that everyone has their own unique experiences; I am open to sharing parts of my story with you when it is helpful, whether that is to offer validation, challenge stigma, or to just get to know each other better. A bit more about me: I am a dog dad, artist, and gaymer. My recharging activities include chilling at the dog park, traveling and backpacking with friends, sketching, reading comic books and cooking.

Taking the initial steps to finding support is so difficult! I aim to make this process as supportive as possible and understand not every personality will match. I am happy to provide a free 15 min consult to see if we may be a good match. I view counseling as an opportunity for growth in personal health and self-discovery during times of transition, change, and unknown certainties. The counseling room is a place of openness with no judgement. I come from a Person Centered Theoretical background, meaning there is unconditional care for every aspect of your experience. I support clients in evaluating their thought processes, the actions that follow, and if that is meeting their needs or not. I I offer support around Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, Adjustment, Gender Identity, PTSD, Trauma, Stress and Self Esteem. I approach therapy from a variety of theories depending on what each person needs with the foundation of Person Centered care and unconditional positive regard.

You feel alone, prioritize the needs of others, and wonder if things will change, asking: "What am I protecting? Who am I trying to be? What do I want?" Relationships (breakups, separation, dating, divorce) can bring up anxiety, regret, fear and self-judgment. These effect the relationship we have with ourselves. Resentments, anger, and guilt - toward others and within ourselves make us feel disconnected and alone. As a therapist, my aim is to help you reconnect with your SELF. Everyone is different. Our expectations and ideals are influenced by family history, surrounding cultural expectations, and unique experiences. Our therapy sessions help you develop tools to define relationships you want, conquer anxiety, past regrets, self doubt, negative self-image, and slowly dispose of the negative loud inner-monologue (which comes up frequently, when you are trying to navigate your road ahead.) I am an Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapist using Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Gottman therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) tools to develop a solid foundation of self - (via telehealth, online) in both Oregon and Washington State. Specialties: Individuals dealing with sleep issues/insomnia, difficulty with focus (ADHD); folks going through separation/divorce to develop purpose, motivation and intention; individuals in relationships cultivate/improve connection; single individuals build a sense of self (aligned with values) which can be applied toward dating and future relationships. __________________________________________ Interested in seeing if we connect? Let's face it - our day-to-day lives can be difficult, stressful, and complex. So of course, we will be impacted on some level by the systems around us. It is a part of what makes us human! I truly believe that a deeper understanding our emotions and experiences can help us move through whatever we face. Having the skills and the community to help us navigate difficult moments is possible! It is truly an honor to be a part of that journey with clients. I utilize music with therapeutic intention to build resilience and empowerment. I also utilize talk therapy to connect with clients, offering a space for verbal processing and conversation. Adopting both a Relational and Systems Theory approach, I strive to meet the client where they are at in order to collaborate on treatment goals and interventions. Therapy can feel uncertain and overwhelming, especially at first. I commend you for doing your due diligence in researching and exploring your options. It is an absolute privilege and honor to be a part of this journey with you!

Making Sense of Your Experiences Over nearly three decades of working with clients, I've come to appreciate how resilient people really are. I've learned that meaningful change often begins when we better understand what has shaped the way we think, feel and behave. Therapy can offer a place to make sense of those influences, recognize patterns that may no longer be working and develop new ways of approaching life that feel more effective and sustainable. Many of the clients I work with are gaining a deeper understanding of how early relationships and experiences continue to affect the way they see themselves, relate to others and respond to challenges in the present. Some have spent years feeling on edge, different, misunderstood or unsure of themselves. Others find that the ways they have learned to cope or connect with others are no longer serving them well, leaving them feeling disconnected, stuck or unsure of what comes next. Therapy can help create greater clarity around these experiences and what you'd like to be different going forward. Understanding How You’re Wired A significant focus of my practice is working with adults with ADHD and other forms of neurodivergence, including those diagnosed later in life. For many, discovering they have ADHD in adulthood brings both relief and grief, as years of experiences begin to make sense through a different lens. With that understanding, many begin to see their past experiences, struggles and strengths in a new light. Together, we can explore what helps you function at your best, build on your strengths, quiet self-doubt and help you feel more at ease and confident in yourself. How I Approach Therapy I believe therapy should be tailored to the individual. No two people bring the same history, strengths, needs or way of seeing the world. My approach is warm, collaborative and practical, with plenty of room for curiosity, reflection and real-life problem solving. We’ll work together in a way that feels intentional, useful and genuinely suited to you. No matter what brings you here, my hope is that therapy helps you understand yourself with greater clarity, self-compassion and confidence.

Are there old patterns stuck on repeat in your relationship that you’ve tried to change but can’t seem to? Is relationship stress or anxiety in general getting in the way of your feeling satisfied or in flow with your life? Maybe you feel invisible or unappreciated. I help clients heal and learn from old relationship wounds and improve their relationship with themselves and others.
