Are you struggling with communication in your intimate relationships, feeling isolated, coping with a difficult breakup, transitioning majors or phases of life, or experiencing grief from a loss? As a licensed psychologist, I work with students, focusing on the "here-and-now" to help clients make build more effective and rewarding relationships, develop insight, and break through internal and external barriers. I aim for an environment of support, compassion, and challenge. I specialize in processing grief and loss, men’s issues and masculinities, relationship distress, immigration/minority stress, building self-compassion, and transitions (e.g., questions about a major and career change) through collaborative approaches. I predominantly use interpersonal, relational, and dynamic therapies to help clients reach their goals.

We all have a deep need for connection. This connection is often challenged and disrupted by experiences throughout our lives. This leads us all to experience some level of disconnect. This can lead to anxiety, depression, poor coping skills, substance use, and many other dis-eases. The good news is that we all have the potential to reconnect with our authentic self and heal! My approach to therapy and healing involves reconnection with our true selves, our body, and the present moment through compassionate listening, non-judgement and curiosity. For over 20 years, I have been providing therapy, assessment, and crisis services to our community. I believe in relationship and proven therapies to guide healing, well-being, greater insight, and confidence in your ability to grow and change. I approach this through appreciating your experience, seeing your strengths, and keeping your front and center in the process. The single most important thing that I have learned in my career is that we all have limitless potential to heal and recover. I deeply believe in your capacity to do so! This capacity already resides within you and you can reconnect with your authentic self to live your best life. I would be honored to embark on this journey with you.

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Portland, OR

Hi, I’m Katharine Frissora, a doctorally prepared integrative psychiatric nurse practitioner. I blend traditional psychiatric care with holistic approaches to support mental health in a more whole-person way. I also have a background in art therapy, which shapes how I think about creativity, self-expression, and their role in healing. I work best with people who want to be active participants in their mental health care and are curious about looking beyond symptoms alone. Whether you’re going through a life transition, feeling stuck, or wanting a deeper understanding of what’s driving your challenges, we’ll work together to create a personalized plan that fits you. My goal is to help you address the root causes impacting your well-being and support sustainable, meaningful change.

I see our work together as a team that balances putting in the hard work while understanding you have to have some laughs along the way! We collaborate to create your goals and methods to achieve those goals that play into your strengths. Above all modalities, the therapeutic relationship is what I value most in our work together. I primarily use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Art Therapy. Despite my degree in art therapy, my dual license allows me to provide more traditional talk therapy, too. There are many ways we can integrate art therapy to fit you, no matter experience or skill. Including the creative process can give you a more experiential approach that feels safer and more accurate than relying only on words. Art therapy can be a more effective alternative for those who have tried traditional talk therapy and found it unsuccessful.

I’m passionate about and dedicated to helping people achieve meaningful and sustainable changes that align with their core values and aspirations. I deeply enjoy working with adolescents, college students, and young adults. I have a lot of experience supporting the LGBTQIA+ and neurodiverse communities. I believe therapy is most successful when we find the path that truly supports the growth you’re seeking. In our work together, we will find an approach that fits your unique needs, drawing from my experience with a range of therapeutic orientations, including trauma-informed therapy, CBT, Mindfulness, and relational approaches. When I’m not working, I enjoy skiing, traveling, hiking, and exploring the outdoors. I also love curling up with a good book, watching a great movie or TV show, and most of all, I cherish spending time with friends and loved ones. Equine-Assisted Mental Health (EAMH) is a specialized psychotherapy treatment that incorporates equines into the therapeutic environment. It is a form of animal-assisted therapy (AAT) that integrates the human–animal bond and relationship with a horse as part of treatment and recovery in psychotherapy. I am a licensed psychologist with strong specialties in treating folks with eating disorders and anxiety. I also have extensive experience working with people with depression and relationship concerns. I am a compassionate, direct therapist. I work collaboratively with my patients to set and achieve their goals. These goals often include increased self-acceptance, as well as changes in mood, thought patterns, and behaviors. My therapy is rooted in empirically based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), psychodynamic theory, and neuroscience research. I develop customized strategies to help my patients manage painful thoughts and emotions, change unhelpful behaviors, and increase motivation. I also help cultivate self-compassion and self-understanding. Self-understanding promotes self-acceptance. When you allow yourself to be who you are, your inner critic has no leverage, and you move more easily toward a meaningful and fulfilling life. For most of my patients, this is the ultimate goal. Please go to my website for more information. My blog describes many of the concepts and strategies I use.

Our lived experiences shape the world around us and how we interact with it. Therefore, I believe understanding someone’s story is instrumental in any therapeutic process. Therapy is meant to help someone heal, build skills, break out of patterns, and gain further insights into oneself. It’s an investment in yourself so that you can have a future not burdened in anguish. As someone who identifies as multiracial, I have firsthand knowledge about the intersectionality of race and culture. I honor each person in front of me and foster a space that is safe where healing can take place. I use a strengths-based approach and pull from different evidence-based modalities such as DBT, CBT, and CPS. Treatment is individualized for the person, not to fit in a box. I have several years working as a clinician within a variety of health care settings with the most recent being with adolescents and adults in acute care settings. In addition, I have experience working with first responders and healthcare professionals.

I am informal, goofy, sometimes loud, curious, imperfect, and you get all that and more when we start working together. Therapy with me commonly looks like laughing together, sometimes until we cry; actually crying together; laying on the ground; understanding that dark humor is often a necessary coping strategy for whatever life throws at us; talking with my hands; and my facial expressions being apart of the conversation (AKA having real reactions to real shit). Growing up between worlds can get messy, that weird in-between of always trying to fit in. As a transracial/international adoptee, I know how frustrating that pull between cultures and identities can be. Whether you're a fellow adoptee, mixed raced, or 1st gen, we’ll explore those layers - the deep identity stuff, aka the “laugh so you don’t cry” stuff, and find your way back home within the complexity. As a relational, trauma-informed therapist, I believe healing happens through connection. I focus on how your relationships, past and present, shape how you move through the world. My work blends somatic awareness with curiosity and compassion to help you build relationships that feel nourishing, real, and aligned with who you are. Finding the right fit may be time consuming, but shouldn’t be draining. Consults are a brief window into what the therapeutic relationship will look like - like a vibe-check. And if the vibes are right, the hard stuff will come naturally and not feel forced. This is why I offer 25-min consults. Reach out for a consult and let’s take it from there!

All inquires should go through our website. www.Principlemind.com The goal at Principle Mind is to get you better. Principle Mind is about the integration of medication with goal-specific therapy. Our approach is to identify the core underpinnings of mental distress. We aim to meet individuals where they are, while at the same time working as hard as you are. While diagnosis and evidence-based medicine do guide our treatment, we treat the person in front of us and their symptoms, as every diagnosis may present differently, and be caused by different sources. If you are motivated, open-minded, and wanting to be more than a spectator in your life, we can work together to obtain wellness and actually get you better. By focusing on core emotional identification and using interpersonal dynamic interactions, we can discover a path to better connection personally, professionally and socially.
