Hello, my name is Dr. Sarah O'Neil. I'm a psychiatrist (medical doctor who can prescribe) currently practicing entirely by telehealth. I am passionate about my work. I am warm and real. I will greet you with a smile, and talk to you like a fellow human. In addition to medication and evidence based therapies, I use humor, irreverence, thought provoking quotes, essays, websites, apps and video clips to introduce concepts such as self care, self compassion, boundary setting and effective coping skills. I provide a thorough initial assessment over the first several appointments, during which time we each figure out if we are a good match for working together. At the completion of the initial assessment, if we agree to work together, I will present a menu of reasonable treatment options that may include medication as well as CBT, DBT and mindfulness based therapy. If you are seeking professional help and are ready to engage collaboratively in an environment of hope and non-judgment to understand yourself through the lens of compassion, we may be a good fit. The best way to arrange an intake is to call my work phone: 617-622-3990. I have been treating/collaborating with/ advocating for college students for my entire career. I see people who have mood disorders, all the anxiety disorders (e.g. generalized anxiety, OCD, panic disorder, social phobia) I also have expertise in assessing and treating people with eating disorders. There is a question below about communities I support. All are welcome in my practice. Hate has no place in my office. I have experience supporting people who have felt the effects of weight or mental health stigma, as well as working mothers and women with or a history of post-partum depression.

Going to therapy implies the courage to question ourselves and face the challenges that get in the way of self-acceptance. I believe therapy can be a transformative encounter that allows a different experience of ourselves. As a Colombian immigrant and a native Spanish and English speaker, I offer a culturally sensitive approach to therapy, attentive to the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, and class. My background and current role as a clinician at Harvard University Counseling and Mental Health Services have given me the privilege of working with patients from all over the world. I am trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy at the Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis and strive to create a safe, confidential space for self-expression. I work with adults experiencing anxiety, mood disorders, PTSD, and life transitions, with particular experience supporting graduate students and young professionals. If you’re considering therapy, I invite you to reach out for a free consultation so we can explore how I can best support you.

I have worked with people of all backgrounds but I generally work with women and the LGBT community. I work with clients on self-esteem, body positivity, anxiety management, trauma symptoms, and relational issues. As a human and a provider, I am feminist, anti-racist, fat positive, sex positive, pro-science, pro-vaccine, and pro-LGBT. My approach is varied depending on the individual's history with treatment. For people new to therapy, it may be helpful to utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. CBT involves looking at thoughts patterns and behaviors that may be creating obstacles in your life and setting up appropriate coping skills to address those issues. For people who come to therapy for the purpose of processing trauma, a trauma-informed, relational approach is necessary. For people who are looking to gain understanding about how their past intersects with their present behaviors, insight oriented therapy would be the best approach. I am not a "Listen and Nod" therapist. I will actively listen, provide you with feedback and analysis, and be open with you about your diagnosis, prognosis, and any treatments indicated. With full transparency, I say that I am not a validation-only therapist. Some folks want a therapist who will listen and validate without providing feedback or analysis. That is not my style. I will, however, work with you to figure out exactly how you can benefit from therapy.

I work primarily with young adults and adults navigating substance use concerns and related mental health challenges. My therapeutic approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), with a strong emphasis on skills-based interventions, relapse prevention, and collaborative treatment planning. I utilize a trauma-informed and strengths-based framework to help clients identify unhelpful thought patterns, build healthier coping strategies, and increase emotional regulation. I have experience supporting individuals in early recovery, those working toward sustained sobriety, and clients managing co-occurring substance use and mental health concerns. Welcome! I'm a therapist who helps college/graduate students and young professionals move from feeling anxious, stuck and unsure to secure, at ease, and fulfilled. Whether it’s feelings of uncertainty about your college and career path, struggles with self-esteem and perfectionism, or adjusting to a new medical diagnosis, you know you’re ready to make changes in your life. Many of the people I work with identify as high-achievers who have “taken all the right steps”, yet are still feeling anxious or uncertain. On paper, they are doing great and seem to have it all together, but inside they’re struggling with feelings of imposter syndrome or like they don’t know if they’re on the right path. I'm here to help you gain the tools and skills necessary to thrive in the face of challenges. Together, we will identify your goals and work collaboratively with an individualized and strengths-based approach. Through our work, we will spend some time exploring your past while also ensuring that we’re taking action-oriented steps to keep you moving forward.

Hello! I have worked as an individual therapist for 7 years and I am excited to be adding more practice hours to my North Shore schedule. I have a lot of experience working with young adults during life transitions; helping people to find strength as they move with intention through uncertainty. If you do not feel like yourself, and something is getting in the way of living out your full potential; you are not alone. Recognizing a desire for something different is a great place to start, and searching for a therapist to support you on your journey is a brave next step! It takes time, attention, energy, and strategies to improve the way we live, feel, and connect with others and it absolutely can be done. I offer a non-judgmental supportive environment where you can develop a better understanding of your unique emotional experience. I have experience working with college-aged students who present with a variety of concerns including: ADHD, anxiety and depression, domestic violence, eating disorders, grief/loss, life transitions, relational conflict, self-esteem issues, stress management, substance use, and trauma.
