We are a team of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners committed to providing quality, holistic mental health care to individuals of all ages, including children, teens, and adults. We understand that seeking mental health care can be daunting, especially when cultural norms, traditions, or fear get in the way. But rest assured that our compassionate and qualified team is ready to support you on your journey to wellness. Trust our expertise and guidance to help you achieve a brighter future.
We live in a high-paced world, pulling us in all directions, leading us to feel burnt out and disconnected from other people. You might have become tired of the nagging stress, the strong emotions, the complexity of navigating relationships, or the feeling that something is holding you back from reaching your full potential. Despite all of this, a part of you wants to feel better and move forward. After all, that is why you are taking this major step of seeking help at this moment in your life. In my practice, I construct a safe therapeutic space where you can slow down and breathe. I believe there is no one-size-fits-all formula to address your unique history, personality, and concerns. Therefore, I take a holistic and integrative approach. I consider your difficulties, strengths, where you came from, where you are now, and where you want to be. By working together with clients, I help them cultivate emotional intelligence, deepen honest self-reflection, and increase their motivation to change. Most of my clients aim to reduce stress, improve human connection, and live more meaningful lives. If you are ready to start your journey towards wellness, email me to set up a free no-obligation brief consultation.

I focus on the emotional wellbeing of high-performing athletes in order for them to reach the next level of performance. I help athletes build resiliency and navigate the troubles of playing sports, including managing perfectionism, preventing burnout, and building mental toughness. This passion for aiding high-performers blossomed at University of Central Arkansas’ Counseling Center where I worked directly with student-athletes providing individual counseling and support to multiple sports teams. Emma Atwood is a licensed certified social worker whose therapeutic approach is grounded in the belief that strong client-therapist relationships are the foundation for meaningful change. Her approach integrates strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic, relational-cultural, and trauma informed approaches. She has specialized training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation (STAIR) to provide therapy to treat trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Her approach strives to empower clients as active participants in their own healing journey. Emma works with adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, attachment-related challenges, relationship issues, and identity exploration. She welcomes clients from all cultural backgrounds and strives to create a safe, affirming space for all aspects of identity, including gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and religion. Clients can expect a collaborative, culturally sensitive, and non-judgmental space where they feel safe to share openly. Emma strives to help clients better understand themselves, recognize their strengths, and develop tools to manage life’s challenges. Together, the client and Emma will explore how past experiences share current patterns, while building new skills for emotional regulation, healthier relationships, and self-compassion. People often ask how they can get rid of their anxiety. Emma says, “The short answer is that you don’t. Our anxiety is telling us something, and only when we learn how to sit with it long enough to listen, will we understand the function it serves and how to manage it. The best therapist for anxiety is one who will help you acquire coping strategies to reduce your anxiety (cognitive-behavioral approach) but also guide insight into the origins of your anxiety and the core beliefs maintaining it (psychodynamic approach). By exploring your anxiety at multiple levels and depths, you can learn to better recognize, understand, and manage your anxiety.” Emma offers in-person therapy in the Boston office, as well as online via a secure video platform for patients located throughout Massachusetts. She has appointments available in the daytime. You can become a patient by completing the New Client Profile form (https://leektherapy.com/form) or calling 508-296-5631.

Our experiences in this world, often based on identities or trauma, can leave us feeling stressed and uncertain. It's confusing to have your worries get in the way of making the connections with people that you long for; or to be so convinced you will fail that it's hard to take the first step in doing the next thing you want to do; or to be suddenly totally overwhelmed in the middle of this exciting new experience you'd been waiting for. Sometimes people need some help slowing down, reconnecting with themselves, and finding new ways to respond so that they can move forward with hope, self-compassion, and empowerment. I have spent many years working in college mental health, helping students from all identities and backgrounds navigate the growth and challenge of the college experience. My approach is collaborative. Together we figure out what's getting in the way for you. I'll be with you in the hard moments, naming and exploring your thoughts, feelings, and experiences so that you can find ways to respond to them that are helpful. Increased connection with your body is key. Let's also celebrate the wins, big and small, along the way. Finding a therapist that is a good fit is so important—if you're not comfortable enough to tell your therapist what's really going on, therapy won't work. Let's find a time to connect to see if I would be a good fit for you in your next step.

WIth over 25 years of experience as a Clinical Social Worker, I have enjoyed working with young adults as they navigate many of life’s transitions. Listening to the stories of many students as they begin college or new chapters, I am aware of the “noise” that often contributes to self doubt and confusion. I specialize in navigating these challenges that often come with life transitions: the excitement as well as the uncertainty, anxiety, sadness and fears. I love to partner with college students to help reframe some of the thinking that leads to feeling stuck and feeling anxious. I support clients to trust and grow their inner resources and resilience while navigating the challenges as they face and transition to new life phases. Through a blend of empathy, active listening and evidence based techniques, I work to create a supportive space where clients can feel heard and they can safely explore their identities and feelings, manage stressors and develop coping strategies to thrive in a world that often feels unsettled.

I am a Board Certified Psychiatrist and I draw from my 10+ years of experience in College Mental Health to provide care to students preparing for and managing the mental health challenges of college. I strongly believe in evaluating and treating the whole person and in meeting you where you are with a goal of helping you find the path to your best possible self. I have a particular interest in anxiety related disorders and utilize a holistic approach to managing anxiety and helping students optimize wellness. I incorporate skills from CBT, ACT, and Mindfulness into my therapy practice. I utilize medication management if and when indicated to optimize treatment. Due to my limited office hours, I am not equipped to treat conditions that could require urgent and immediate care and thus if you are struggling with chronic or treatment-resistant resistant mood disorders, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, addictions, severe eating disorders, or chronic suicidality, I recommend you seek care through a health system or provider that offers more services suited to best meet your needs.
