Therapists for college students near Boston College
Living in today's modern world is difficult. We are bombarded with information, choices, expectations and responsibilities. And that's difficult for anyone to carry alone. I imagine you’re searching for a therapist because something is not working, and you are looking for a change. Therapy can be a wonderful tool to help you navigate life's challenges and to improve your mental health and overall well-being. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or simply feeling stuck, therapy can provide a safe and non-judgmental space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. As a therapist, my approach is collaborative, and client centered. This means that I will work with you to create a personalized treatment plan that addresses your unique needs, preferences, and goals. I believe in using evidence-based practices and integrating various therapeutic modalities to provide the most effective treatment possible. In therapy, we will work together to identify patterns and behaviors that may be holding you back, explore new perspectives and coping strategies, and develop skills to help you thrive in all areas of your life. My ultimate goal is to help you build resilience, gain insight, and achieve greater overall satisfaction and fulfillment. If you're ready to take the first step towards positive change, I would be honored to work with you. Please don't hesitate to reach out to schedule an appointment or to ask any questions you may have. I welcome you to reach me at email, agranigan@groundingu.org or my website at: www.groundingu.org to learn more and schedule your first appointment or free consultation today!
You were sexually assaulted or experienced a disturbing sexual encounter. Now you feel jittery & anxious. Sometimes you have panic attacks. You can’t stop thinking about what happened and try really hard to avoid any reminders of it. You may feel really confused about how to label the experience and wonder if it was partly your fault. You have nightmares, trouble with intimacy, and are concerned you’re now permanently damaged or broken. It is possible to heal. You can feel relaxed again, get pleasure from intimacy, and feel good in your body. I am Rachel Stanton (she/her) and I use treatments like EMDR & Progressive Counting to help you process what happened in small, manageable chunks. These techniques are known for being more efficient and effective than regular talk therapy. Please go to my website CounselinginBoston.com to learn more about these techniques and the services I offer.
I am a psychologist experienced in working with college students and young adults trying to cope with a broad range of difficulties. I have particular expertise in couples therapy and in individual therapy to treat depression and bipolar disorders, anxiety, OCD, life transitions, relationship issues, and stress. I often work with individuals who have eating disorders, personality disorders, ADHD, and substance use problems, as well. I use a client-centered and skills-oriented approach, incorporating a blend of evidence-based interventions (e.g., CBT, ACT, DBT) to individually tailor treatment to each client's unique values and goals. My style is warm, direct, and genuine, often incorporating levity and humor. I believe it is important to develop a full understanding of each client's culture to treat each individual as a whole person, and I work well with clients from diverse backgrounds, including race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, etc. I would be honored to help you work toward addressing your unique therapy goals.
We specialize in treating the college-aged population and have a staff that supports complex life issues that students typically experience.
Empathic and experienced counselor who works with children, adolescents, college students and adults.
I work with older teens and young adults who are typically struggling with more than one thing that leads to feeling really big emotions. A common co-occurrence is ADHD/Anxiety, but it could be any combination - mood disorder and autism, social anxiety and feeling angry all the time...having more than one thing at a time makes it more difficult to figure out what to do about those big emotions, which is where I come in. I help figure out what's going on, what are some tools that can help those emotions, and how you can start recognizing when that surge of emotion is coming before it becomes unmanageable.

Most of my clients are women struggling with depression, anxiety, grief or loss, life transitions, relationship issues, and adjustment to change. Many people come to therapy seeking support, understanding, and tools to manage stress in their lives. I want you to know that I welcome you and your process and I am so glad you have arrived here! I believe in the importance of the therapeutic relationship and adopt a strengths-based perspective to addressing the issue at hand to help you feel supported, listened to, validated and cared for. We will work together to help resolve your symptoms in order to gain more balance in your life, improve your mood, and enhance your resiliency.
My approach to treatment is to create a space that is supportive and empathetic so that the client will be in a place to build rapport, explore issues that are interfering with their quality of life, and develop a better sense of goals and the means to reach them. I operate from a Strength-based and Cognitive-behavioral therapy lens with elements of other modalities. I am a strong believer in using mindfulness when approaching issues like anxiety and depression. I see the client as a person affected by the systems that make up their lives. I understand the importance of family work as a part of the process of helping an individual. The most important aspect of treatment is the relationship between the therapist and the client. Without trust, it is impossible to get any real work done. When you walk into my office you can expect a space that is free of judgment and completely client-centered.
