If you’re a woman or queer person who seems put-together on the outside while feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or unsure of who you’re becoming on the inside, you’re not alone. Many of my clients describe shutting down in social settings, feeling pressure to perform, comparing themselves constantly, or wondering why things that once felt easy now feel impossibly heavy. They’re exhausted from pretending they’re fine, disconnected from their own needs, and scared by how quickly their emotions or motivation can swing. I help clients make sense of these intense inner shifts through a somatic, trauma-informed, and spiritually grounded approach. Together, we slow down enough to track what your body and emotions are trying to say, stress patterns, numbness, overthinking, people-pleasing, or the impulse to disappear. Instead of forcing insight or navigating it alone, you get a space to explore identity, relationships, boundaries, burnout, and the pressure to figure everything out. This work helps soften shame, reduce spirals, and reconnect you to what’s real and steady within you. Clients often describe feeling calmer, clearer, and more able to show up for their lives with presence and self-trust. They communicate more honestly, rest without guilt, reconnect with people they care about, and feel less ruled by anxiety or self-attack. If you’re ready to understand what’s shifting inside you, and want support that meets you with depth, compassion, and grounded tools, I’d be honored to walk with you.
With over 7 years of experience supporting children, adolescents, and adults navigating trauma, adversity and other life stressors, I have witnessed that trauma and stress are not simply our thoughts but deeply embedded in our minds and bodies, causing impact to the whole person. This understanding has informed my clinical approach through helping individuals regulate their stress response and nervous system so they can feel more in control of their emotions, thoughts, and reactions. My therapeutic approach is rooted in the belief that change is possible through safe and healthy connections and feeling seen and heard.

My theoretical orientation is integrative, which means I use a combination of humanistic, solution-focused, person-centered, cognitive behavioral, mindfulness based /contemplative approaches, stress management, and insight oriented techniques-depending on the needs of the client. I understand how critical the relationship between client and therapist is to the success of the therapeutic experience. As such, my hope always is to provide a warm, empathetic, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment-one in which my clients will feel safe and encouraged to build trust and work towards self-empowerment. To that end, I employ a collaborative, strengths-oriented approach. My style is warm, compassionate, interactive, and I provide ongoing feedback. Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, especially if you're used to handling everything on your own. Whether you're feeling anxious, emotionally drained, stuck in patterns you can't seem to break, or simply not feeling like yourself, you don't have to navigate it alone. I work with college students and young adults experiencing anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, depression, bipolar disorder, chronic illness, life transitions, relationship challenges, and overwhelming stress. Many of my clients are high achievers who appear to have everything together on the outside while struggling internally with self-doubt, perfectionism, or feeling emotionally exhausted. My approach is warm, collaborative, and tailored to your unique needs. I draw from evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Solution-Focused Therapy, to help you better understand your thoughts and emotions, develop practical coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change. My goal is to provide a space where you feel not only heard but truly understood. Together we'll work toward helping you feel more confident, resilient, and connected to the life you want to live.

I worked in college counseling for four years, (2021-2025) and understand the unique challenges students face along with the systemic factors that can greatly impact students. Your mental health and wellbeing is essential for navigating the college experience, and you deserve support through this journey. When working together, we usually focus on whatever is most pressing for you. For some, this looks like discussing an upsetting situation and processing the emotions they are feeling, then finding ways to make these emotions more manageable so that they can function in their day-to-day life. Other times, we focus more deeply on connecting patterns and themes that have developed over the course of your life and figuring out how to navigate the world differently. I often help students to better understand and identify their feelings by pausing, slowing down, and connecting the mind and the body. We can work on how to handle distressing feelings without constant avoidance or distractions, how to communicate more effectively, and how to create meaning and wholeness. If you feel anxious, depressed, stressed out, and are having difficulty with managing all of the things you're trying to balance between your personal life and academic responsibilities, reach out and I am happy to connect and see if we'd be a good fit.

Often in therapy we work to bring what's unconscious into consciousness, which can create more agency, freedom, and choice. As both a psychotherapist and writer, I believe in the power of finding connections between that which is seemingly disconnected in order to uncover a deeper understanding of oneself and the way one relates to others and the world. I specialize in treating trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, interpersonal relational difficulties, and life transitions. Using a psychodynamic framework and relational lens, my work is informed by both psychoanalytic theories and Buddhist psychology. I often draw from Internal Family Systems framework and specialize in psychedelic integration psychotherapy. I received my psychotherapeutic education from New York University, The National Institute for the Psychotherapies, and Nalanda Institute’s Contemplative Psychotherapy Program. I hold an MSW from NYU, an MFA from The New School, and a BA from Boston College. For more info: alipowerpsychotherapy.com.
