There are things that you have to deal with that are too difficult to take on by yourself. Unfortunately, it is not always clear which direction to take- you need someone to bounce ideas off of, someone who is objective and has the experience to help you find your way. I believe that you have the tools you need to make the changes that you need to make. My role as therapist is to help you find those tools within yourself and to learn trust yourself enough to use them. I have worked with clients who are dealing with adjustment, life-stage transitions, identity issues and family problems. Many of my clients seek therapy for relationship issues and when struggling with grief, depression or anxiety.

Are you a deep thinker? Do you benefit from processing situations and thoughts out loud? Together we can navigate the challenges of being a young adult in college. I have over a decade of experience helping young people focus on their mental and emotional health so they can achieve their life goals. I work well with students who are open to being challenged and are seeking better coping and communication skills, working on healthy boundaries and relationships, and achieving a better understanding of themselves.
I've been in the field of social services for over 25 years, and I've had the good fortune to work in many different settings and with a vast array of populations. As a therapist I create environments that help people feel safe and supported and assist people in building motivation towards positive change. My clinical work is grounded in research and evidence-based practices, and I always work at a pace that is tailored to your unique situation and goals. My approach to therapy is warm, individualized, compassionate, and flexible. I'm a humble man with a good sense of humor, and I'm sensitive yet direct when I communicate. I've received formal training in many of the psychotherapy models and have specialized in the treatment of addiction, depression, personality disorders, bipolar disorder, ADHD, shame, couples, anxiety, trauma, anger/rage, and relationship challenges. I use the Gottman method for Couples Counseling and find the strategies practical and easy to adopt. In the early stages of my career, I treated adolescents, families, and young adults, and over the last decade have had more clinical experience working with adults and couples. I've also managed clinical program settings, providing leadership and supervision. I'd be happy to set up an initial consultation to see if we would be a good match to work together.

Our mission is to provide the greater Rhode Island area with exceptional therapy, offering cutting edge and research-supported treatment by a team of highly trained therapists. In my work as a therapist, I focus on understanding early experiences and how psychological well-being can be fostered through relationships. I believe change and healing come through relationships: our relationships with ourselves, as well as our relationships with others. I view therapy as a collaborative process that allows both therapist and client to grow and change. My clients describe me as an empathetic, active listener who approaches their concerns with caring, respect, pragmatism, and sometimes, humor. I'm honored that you're considering working with me and I would be happy to answer any questions that you may have. Please feel free to contact me.

Hi! I'm a Psychologist licensed in both New York and California, and I love working with college students! Please call to arrange an appointment in-office, or via computer (secure, live-stream video conferencing platform).
I appreciate the time you are taking to choose the best person and process for your specific needs. Being a college student requires a lot of difficult choices, and I know finding a counselor can be hard as well. Here are some thoughts about how I work, but please contact me if you have other questions. My goal as a counselor is to shape our work around the needs, goals, and overall direction you want to take in your life. If you have very focused, concrete issues you want to address, we’ll use a solution-focused approach to create plans and strategies for focused change and growth. If you have more broad, complicated things to address, we talk about a deeper purpose and meaning for your life that can serve as a foundation for more significant changes. No matter what you would like to talk about in counseling, we will capitalize on your strengths as a whole person to create the change you seek.
I believe that what brings many people to therapy is a sense of disconnection (from themselves, others, or the world around them). Alongside disconnection, clients may experience depression, anxiety, stress, relationship concerns, job/career concerns, loneliness, anger, body pains, among other symptoms. I’m passionate about working with clients to help them identify, understand, and reconnect with the parts of themselves and their experiences that they disconnected from throughout the years. It is through this work that clients are able to show up more authentically and experience greater meaning and fulfillment in their lives. I work primarily from relational and attachment based frameworks while incorporating complementary modalities, prioritizing client needs/goals. My specialty is working with individuals with relationship concerns, identity exploration, and life transitions. Additionally, I have expertise working with college/graduate students and emerging adults. I wholeheartedly believe that much of the healing and growth process occurs within the context of relationships (whether that be in the relationships with others or with yourself). Therefore, I emphasize the importance of finding a good fit with a therapist and encourage reaching out if you feel we may be a good fit. I look forward to connecting!
I am a clinical psychologist and have been in practice for over 20 years. I specialize in working with individuals and couples ages 18 years and older. I address a variety of concerns including anxiety, depression, relationship/family dynamics and trauma, as well as stressors particular to the college and graduate school experience. My Interest in psychology is based in my wish to help people decrease their pain and expand their lives in ways that are important to them. I am described by my patients as a warm person who creates a safe environment through being respectful and sensitive to who you are: your personality, family, developmental and cultural history, other identities and the emotions you are experiencing. Psychodynamic and insight-oriented, I utilize a variety of techniques, especially Internal Family Systems (IFS), a therapeutic approach that is extremely effective for many issues and is known to be especially helpful with trauma recovery. IFS helps individuals, as well as couples, tease apart and learn about conflicting feelings or parts of themselves. Doing so improves one’s ability to feel better, function effectively and heal painful experiences from the recent and distant past. In couples work I also utilize Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an attachment-based model that helps couples identify difficult cycles of interactions and recognize the needs, hurts and fears that underlie them. Partners emerge from this process feeling more connected with one another in meaningful, supportive and secure ways and are better able to communicate. Research has proven this to be a highly effective form of therapy. I have held positions at several university counseling centers including Fordham University where I was Assistant Director of Counseling and Psychological Services, The Graduate Center in New York City and Princeton University. College and graduate students have always been a significant part of my practice.
