I appreciate the time you are taking to choose the best person and process for your specific needs. Being a college student requires a lot of difficult choices, and I know finding a counselor can be hard as well. Here are some thoughts about how I work, but please contact me if you have other questions. My goal as a counselor is to shape our work around the needs, goals, and overall direction you want to take in your life. If you have very focused, concrete issues you want to address, we’ll use a solution-focused approach to create plans and strategies for focused change and growth. If you have more broad, complicated things to address, we talk about a deeper purpose and meaning for your life that can serve as a foundation for more significant changes. No matter what you would like to talk about in counseling, we will capitalize on your strengths as a whole person to create the change you seek.

I understand how heavy life can feel, and I am here to walk alongside you in this process. If you're ready to take your first step, call today for a free 15-minute consultation to see if we're a good fit. I offer teletherapy for clients across Virginia and New York.

Are you currently experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, or relationship issues? If you are reading this, you have already taken the first step to making positive changes in your life! Hello, my name is Kristen. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and I am passionate about helping students navigate through adulthood, especially those struggling with anxiety. With a background in treating individuals who have experienced trauma, I use a person-centered approach to create a safe space where clients can process their life experiences and begin to heal. I believe that you are here to write your own story, and I would be happy to help collaborate with you on your path to self-growth and wellness.
The clients I work best with are young adults who are navigating complex relationship and intimacy challenges, struggling with self-esteem, or experiencing anxiety and depression. Often, these individuals are seeking a safe space to better understand themselves, heal from past hurts, and build stronger, healthier connections with others. My ideal clients are looking for guidance in managing overwhelming emotions, improving their mental health, and gaining the tools they need to navigate relationships and life transitions. Many have faced feelings of isolation, low self-worth, or uncertainty in their personal lives and are ready to explore solutions that can help them grow and thrive. If you’ve been feeling stuck, anxious, or disconnected in your relationships or struggle to find confidence within yourself, we may be a good fit. I aim to create a compassionate, non-judgmental environment where you can express yourself openly, explore your experiences, and work towards meaningful change.

For many, college is the best of times..the newfound freedom to discover who you are and where you’re going in your career and your relationships and the sense of all that’s possible. But, for others, it’s also the worst. Why? Because this is also a time of existential crises. New freedoms bring up so many questions: Is this really the relationship or career I want to pursue? If this is such a great time in my life, why do I feel so anxious, stressed, or depressed? Why can’t I regularly tap into the motivation I want to do all the things I’ve always wanted to do? Imagine how it feels… the waves constantly coming at you. You personally have to navigate these situations, because you’re the only one with all the answers. But it feels scary and shameful that you don’t have the foggiest clue of what you’re doing. And shouldn’t you already know by now?? Not at all! Truth is, college is a much more difficult time than most people acknowledge. But hard times can also be opportunities… for you to discover more fully who you are and how to embrace this ‘not-knowing.’ Our work together will help you learn how to make sense of all these different feelings, and cultivate the creativity needed to make something interesting and new out of all those questions. Instead of being pummeled by the waves, you can actually surf them! Instead of getting pulled in by the undertow, the barrage of self-critical and anxious thoughts that keep you up at night, I’ll help you learn how to approach these without fear and harness them so you can find your answers. Let’s get started! If you’re excited about putting aside the worry and the stress and finding your energy and direction again, call or email me so we can get started. College can be that great time you’d always hoped it would be.
