My clients are often experiencing increased stress, worry, sadness, and a feeling of uneasiness that impacts their daily life. These feelings may be intensified by struggles in personal relationships. I begin therapy in a holistic manner, learning who my clients are as a whole person and working collaboratively with them to determine the most effective course of treatment. I practice through a psychodynamic lens, helping clients to understand how experiences from their past might be informing their present challenges. I offer CBT and DBT techniques to help clients reframe negative thought patterns, sit more comfortably with anxious feelings, and implement improved communication skills to achieve more meaningful, joyful relationships. I integrate creative elements into the therapeutic space, inviting clients to move into into breathwork, journaling, music, and art as a means to foster deepened exploration and insight into the issues at hand. I bring warmth, humor, and deep insight into the therapeutic relationship. I understand the vulnerability therapy entails and believes feeling comfortable and connected to your therapist is integral. I believe in the power of the therapeutic process to help you move through difficult experiences towards greater feelings of connection, self-compassion, and wholeness. On the practical side of things, I am a Licenced Creative Arts Therapist and board-certified music therapist working with young adults in prominent teaching hospitals and in private practice for over 7 years. I graduated with my master’s in music psychotherapy from New York University in 2014 and am currently completing training as an advanced analytical music psychotherapy practitioner.
The best approach to treatment is a personalized care where all of my clients have the ability to create their own course of treatment. I have multiple years’ experience providing individualized, solution focused therapy. I have worked with children as young as 5 and adults to age 70. Success with both individual and family treatment comes naturally. After meeting with me, you will walk away with the knowledge of how to improve your life. You will understand what treatment will look like, clear goals will be created, and a solid foundation on what to expect moving forward. Throughout the course of treatment, you will begin to learn about yourself. You will learn what works and what does not in terms of how to improve and maintain a positive lifestyle. By the time we are finished with treatment, you will be ready to face the world all on your own. Making that initial call is difficult but we will work together to overcome that barrier. I am available for a free telephone consultation to discuss your needs and to create a plan of action.
Hi, I’m Liz! I’m a Licensed therapist (LCSW) and Certified Clinical Sports Social Worker - and founder of MENTL.SESH. I help people accomplish their goals, reconnect with their sense of self, boost confidence, and improve mental fitness by meeting them where they are at in their mental health journeys. Working with athletes, high performers and creatives to manage anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, and challenging life situations are my areas of specialty. Therapy should feel fulfilling and the last thing I want for my clients is for therapy to feel like a chore. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation for working toward and achieving therapeutic goals, so I encourage you to feel all the feels, speak your mind, and be yourself in sessions. Therapy with me is a collaborative process and I want any clients who work with me to feel that they are heard and supported. Throughout the therapy process, we will explore both the highs and lows, whether that be through identifying thought patterns, behavioral patterns, current and past experiences, or self-care and coping skills. I'm a firm believer that healing is not linear and acknowledging the good is equally important to living your best life. I aim to have a down-to-earth, strengths-based & integrative approach and will most definitely throw in a few sports and pop culture references, thinking outside of the box, and use humor when appropriate. A bit more about my approach to therapy: My approach is down-to-earth, encouraging, and guided foremost by the client. The #1 adage leading my practice is “start where the client is”. I listen carefully, reflect for clarity, and help clients to articulate deeper understanding of themselves. Individuals questioning their sexual identity, LGBTQ, and BIPOC clients will be supported and affirmed. Creative types are welcomed: use of creativity is an unlimited source of healing potential. "Begin. The rest is easy." - George Jenkins What you can expect from our first session: Every individual deserves to find a meaningful sense of purpose, direction, and belonging. After our first session together, I hope for you to feel seen, understood, and supported upon a path of increasing possibility; my hope is that you will feel more capable in the moment of managing what life has waiting for you next.
Drawing upon over a decade of experience in solution-focused, client-centered, EMDR and cognitive behavioral psychotherapy techniques, I seek to serve my clients by creating a goal-orientated, collaborative treatment plan to help you achieve your desired goals, work through past trauma, relationship difficulties, get "unstuck", or work through problem areas. My approach to therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and relational. I believe that people are naturally motivated toward healing and recovery, and that an alliance with a supportive therapist, with whom you feel safe and comfortable, can facilitate this process. There is no template or single method that I use in my practice. Instead, we will determine the pace and style that is best for you. Throughout our work together, I will be open to and enthusiastic about the feedback you provide about the treatment. I will share my thoughts and assessments, with room for discussion. My goal is to facilitate and support your efforts to change so that you recognize your unique strengths. We will explore your current strategies and develop new methods of coping. I favor approaches that address the connection between mental and physical well-being, which include mindfulness, meditation, and breath-work. Depression, anxiety, trauma, and struggles with intimacy and relationships all have a profound impact on how we experience and negotiate our life's work. Together we can identify these roadblocks, work in a targeted way to resolve them, and promote the healthy development and happiness you deserve.

The idea of starting therapy can stir up many emotions for us. Maybe we're scared of getting vulnerable. Maybe we're struggling to accept that we need help and feel like we've failed. And maybe a little bit of us sparks with hope that something better can happen in our lives; that change is possible. Many people enter therapy feeling disconnected and low on hope, but together we can work to change that. I love helping clients to restore hope and connection with their most authentic selves. Over the last decade I have worked with people coping with depression, anxiety, and trauma. I also bring a specialized focus in working with adoptees and caregivers (especially those who find themselves unexpectedly care giving for a loved one earlier in life than they anticipated). My work is most informed by a background in trauma, attachment, and self compassion. My favorite part of being a therapist is helping people to see themselves with more clarity and kindness. If you think I might be a good fit to work with you, drop me a message and let's chat!
